I think you're confusing philosophy with religion. Well, maybe not. I'd say a truly enlightened man could live as long as he damn well pleased.

Yes, of course. Indian Himalayas are great.
Himalays are a great source for enlightenment. But be sure that you go to such places, where there are lesser pollution and the heights are more than 13000 feet from the sea level. The mountains, rivers, the flora and fauna, the clouds, the sky, the habitats' life, the rocks will enthrill you. With closed eyes you would be able to imagine and wonder about how the world was made. The snow clad mountains will make you feel far superior than who are at the the plains. You would be able to increase your thinking process and be a good planner.
Once you visit such places, you will surely come back again to the mountains for rejuvinating your life. Each visit will give you at least 5 years of enlightment. Be sure that you do not go there in a crowd. Take a like minded person with you. I had been to Himalayas at least 10 times and feel excited and serene about it. It is wonderful experience.
Go to places like: Gangotri and Goumukh ( Via Uttarkashi), Yamunotri ( Via Mussourie, Kempty falls- near Dehradun). The entire route is exciting after the rail heads. carry a few medicines alongwith and some dry foods and sufficient woollen clothes and sleeping bag, umbrella, torch, needle and thread, sun glasses, a hat, a walking stick ( buy from local shops), good pair of shoes, some cold cream. etc.

Why would you go to the Himalays for enlightenment when it is possible now and here? You can achieve it wherever you are. Enlightenment has nothing to do with the life-span of a person. It is the basic knowledge about oneslef. Death is the basic fact of life and inevitable. Usually people seek Enlightenment to avoid the cycle of births and deaths. If you are seeking a long life, then enlightenment is not what you seek.

enlightenment is not only possible in the himalayan mountains it is possible anywhere the only thing is that u have to be meditating, concentrate on god.and mainly following on the principles of god.so enlightment is possible anywhere it just depends on the dedication and sincerity to god.after enlightenment a person lives as long as he was living before enlightment the only thing is that after getting enlightenment a person after dieing doesnt take a rebirth.

Enlightenment is possible every where, if you sincerely and patiently take it as your mission. There is no specific time period between death and enlightenment, but anyone genuinely got en-lighted will desire to end life on the basis of the enlightenment as the world is not fit to live.

you dont have to go to himalyas to get enlighnment...Buddha got it under a Banyan Tree now called the Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya.
Why do you want that anyway?Did your gf dump u?Did God come to u in a dream and say "Go to himalyas and get a bulb and halo around your head"?
What ever it is hope u get back to your senses soon..

Enlightenment is equal to death. it is death of emotions, feelings ,reasoning. So do not fool yourself by false promises of saints.
