I've done a complete system diagnostic and it still keeps doing this. I can't even restart it using Start menu and alt-crtl-del doesn't even bring up task manager. Please help before it freezes again...

Um, perhaps there may be a better way, but I would reinstall my operating system.

Had that with an old comp. Didnt bother to get it repaired but my advice is to take it to a licensed repair guy. You most likely had a virus on their at one time and it is now acting screwy with your explorer software. Another reason it can freeze is if you havent updated all of your software or some of your software is not compatable with the type of windows that you are using.

For the longest time my HP printer software was freezing my computer b/c I hadnt done a software update since I bought it...oops.

Is the light on your computer flashing to tell you its doing something when it freezes, if so it could be your RAM. you may not have enough.
Is it an older computer and just cant handle the speed you want to work at. Maybe your giving it to many commands at once.
Open a music file and play it, then try opening another program, you might find the music stops and starts. again it could be the ram
if it is RAM check out this site http://www.crucial.com/

Try running your virus scanner and then try running an anti spyware program. You can find some free ones like Spybot Search and Destroy and AdAware.

go to start

click on control panel

go to internet options

clear out your history, cookies and files.

you may have too much junk in there. do this periodically, like every two weeks or so.
