I was told that you're not supposed to, but I have done it for a short length of time. Usually no more that 30 seconds. I do it to warm my hamburger or french fries. If you do it too long, I was told that the Styrofoam would melt.

its....safe, but not the best idea, first of all, styrofoam is bad for the environment to begin with so you shouldnt be using it, and small amounts of chemicals are released into your food when you heat it up in the microwave, not enough to kill you, but just not the greatest idea..
