The One True God promises true and eternal happiness and unfading glory to all obedient human beings.
Most men in those centuries could not understand spiritual happiness and glory. To them happiness and glory are such pleasures of kings or of people wealthier than kings. So the divine teachers had to use such images to enhance their thinking. And at present, there are still quite a noticeable number of men who deny spiritual happiness and only dream of such sensual heavens on earth!
But, little by little, we know and we can enjoy happiness and glory in poetry, in arihtmetic, in painting, in science, in philosophy, in literature, and most importantly in the selfless sacrifice for our fellow-men. This is the spiritual progress, this is the true meaning of paradise for the children of the One True God.

Yeah, pretty much.
I'd like to share a question that comes to my mind.
What did the 72 virgins do to receive such a cruel fate?

I'm an atheist and would be far more tempted by pretty girls than a bunch of Pat Robertson zombies caterwauling for an eternity.

The whole point of golden streets is to clarify just how UN-important riches and worldly wealth are when we sit at the feet of the one who paid the price for me to be there!!

Not sure of the referrence but assuming it's correct I would say yes. The difference is that we got over killing people over religion a few hundred years ago.

Only in the fact that our God doesn't command us to kill to get there, in fact, it's quite the opposite actually.

We do not kill to obtain it. It is a gift to those who believe. Besides, I can prove my God exists and that the Bible is true.
