Leonard's Bakery

Ask anyone about Leonard's Bakery and I bet the first thing they would mention is the malasadas. Leonard's Bakery has been doing business since 1952 at the same spot on the corner of Kapahulu Avenue and Charles Street. lived in Hawaii for several years and never got tired of eating the hot malasadas from Leonards bakery.

Each winter, O‘ahu’s rugged North Shore serves up some of the largest and imposing ocean waves on the planet. Giant, storm-generated swells make their long trek across the northern Pacific to batter reef breaks and the area’s shoreline.

For many locals, this means only one thing: Surf’s up!

Hawaii's Polynesian Cultural Center, located about one hour's scenic drive from Waikiki, is the top paid Hawaiian attraction for a reason. Our seven native villages give visitors the rare chance to participate in the daily adventures of Hawaiian and other South Pacific cultures. Add Hawaii's most authentic luau and the world's largest night show and you'll see why every trip to Hawaii should include a visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center.

Visit the Arizona Memorial then maybe when you go home you will trade in your Honda for a Ford.

ALOHA Festival happening in September - - - there is always something happening on O'ahu. Get a copy of the TGIF section of The Honolulu Advertiser several weeks ahead and map out fun. Lots of local theater - - - always a festival of some sort - - - there is a Jazz fest coming up in a few weeks - - - also a Country Bash - - - bring lots of Cash though the sticker shock can be harsh. On Tuesdays along FORT STREET MALL there is always free music between twelve &one PM - - - and The First Friday of Every Month is a celebration in Downtown Honolulu which is becoming known as The ARTS DISTRICT and is part of or rather blends into CHINATOWN. The SECOND SUNDAY of every month is a day long party in Kailua the pretiest small town on Earth, on the WIndward Side, an easy ride away from Honolulu. Have fun in the Sun.

We went last May and had an awesome time. Here's some of the things that we did that are well worth it:

1. Go snokeling at Hanauma Bay -- it's only about 20-30 minutes from Waikiki Beach (where most tourists stay). You can bring your own snorkel gear or you can rent theirs for around $10. It's a beautiful area and you won't be disappointed by the snorkeling. You'll see lots of colorful fish -- be sure to bring a waterproof disposible camera.

2. Climb Diamond Head -- It's only about 5-10 minutes from Waikiki Beach. Do this in the early morning before it gets too hot or else it will be miserable. We did it around 8am and it was perfect. The climb is pretty challenging, but the view at the top is well worth it. Plus, you'll burn a ton of calories so you eat more during the day. :-)

3. Take a drive around Oahu -- this is so much fun and its relatively cheap (except for gas and food). There are so many beaches to stop at and explore. Plus the scenery is breathtaking!! Be sure to drive up to the North Shore -- Waimea Bay is beautiful and a great place to swim at.

4. Go to Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial -- This is a "can't miss" experience. Go early because it gets very crowded by mid morning. Be prepared to wait a few hours for the boatride out to the Arizonoa Memorial. There's plenty of things to do and see around the area before your number gets called so waiting is not a big deal.

5. Eat at Duke's on Waikiki Beach -- This is kind of a kitchy touristy restaurant, but it's a lot of fun and felt really Hawaiian to me. Plus, its right on the beach. Get the Hula Pie for dessert --it's to die for!!!!

6. Go to a Luau -- there are 3 or 4 good ones on Oahu. We went to the Paradise Cove Luau and it was awesome!! It was a pretty good deal because they provide bus transporation from your hotel, which is perfect if you plan on drinking!! It's about an hour drive out to the Luau from Waikiki, but they keep you enertained on the bus. The food was really good, plus there were lots of neat things to do before dinner started, like learn how to make leis, take a ride in a canoe & watch other Hawaiian cultural stuff. They also have a great show after dinner with hula girls and fire eaters.

House to the State Capitol, Honolulu is the vibrant epicentre of Hawaii and a town worth visit, as you might find with hotelbye . In Honolulu you'll find everything from ancient landmarks and valued monuments to world-class shopping and a flourishing arts and lifestyle scene. Home to the majority of Oahu's populace, the expansive city of Honolulu advances throughout the south-eastern shores of Oahu, from Pearl Harbor to Makapuu Point, encompassing earth famous Waikiki. Pearl Harbor is among Honolulu's greatest tourist attractions. Although it is house to the Navy's Pacific Fleet, readers can have a tour to begin to see the USS Arizona Memorial, and the USS Missouri.

Definately gotta go to the "Aloha Stadium". It's like a swapmeat. There are a lot of booths set up and you can literally buy EVERYTHING!!

Make sure you go to Waiola Shave Ice at least ONCE while your in Hawaii. Shave ice is a local favorite. It's like snowcones but way better. The ice is so soft and smooth and there are so much colors. You can get a large cone for under two dollars with toppings. It's amazing you have to go

Go to a beach! Waikiki is usually filled with tourists. I suggest you go to the ala moana beach park. It's very nice and clean (and relaxing). Afterwards you can walk across to the mall! Ala Moana Center is huge and there are many stores. (Even retail stores like louis vuitton burberry neiman marcus).

You have to go to Giovanii's Shrimp at least once. You'll fall in love with the shrimp. It's very far away so I suggest you sign up with a tour but otherwise a cab might be expensive and a bus might be a little scary not knowing where you may end up. The shrimp is amazing everyone goes here.

Go to Waikiki at night! There are a lot of street performers [some of them are painted like statues and if you tip them something special will happen]. There are plenty of stores too!

Head over to chinatown.. Look at the stores and have a nice lunch there.

We were in Honolulu this past March. Was VERY wet, rained most of the time. But we still got in the things we wanted to see. I agree and we did most of the things Shelly P mentioned in her answer. It is a VERY expensive place but worth it, afterall, you are on vacation. The International Market is a must see for souveniers and they will barter their prices, especially toward the end of the day. The Cheesecake Factory is a great place to eat, although expensive you get HUGE servings. Have fun!

Use the bus. The bus is really great and cheap alternative to renting a car. You could go around the island on the city bus, but i reccommend that you go on the day tour bus that you can arrange with the tour desks in the lobby in every hotel.

Ala Moana is a nice place to shop.

Honolulu is very exspensive and it is a huge city. Do all the typical tourist type stuff. Get a book and do some research. Rent a car and drive around the island. Have fun!!
