I would build my house on a rock. But religion is the sand of intelligence and knowledge.

Knowing the concept of a floating foundation...used in cordwood building & the like, the sand provides flexibility with Earth movement and less stress to the structure...the rock, of course, could eventually break apart with age, or roll away under ground stress...thus destroying the structure all together...

This sounds like some silly metaphor to me, why not indicate what you are really trying to say... but if you are actually talking about residential structures then I'd rather build mine on rock than sand but then this question doesn't belong here.

Um...yeah, why would anyone build theirs on sand. In the bible it says the foolish man built his house on sand. I would like to think I have a little bit of common sense. I'd pick rock!!

I'm a bricklayer who lives by the sea my friend sand compressed is as hard as rock, I know because I have tried to dig it, rock can splinter and crack under compression, sand just compacts more and gets harder.
