Try giving your dog something enticing like nutrical or cheese or a can of wet dog food to get her to eat. She needs a little something to boost her energy before she whelps.

Well, I guess STARVING the bi tch before whelping is sure not a good idea!!!!! This seems common sense.
It will NOT however, induce or speed along labor, and some bi tches will not eat a thing 12-24 hours prior to whelping.
