I was invited to a Bat Mitzvah. Since I am not Jewish, I have no idea on what is appropriate. Also should i bring the present to the church or the party.

Gifts like books with religious or educational value, religious items, writing implements, savings bonds (to be used for the child's college education) or gift certificates are common. Cash gifts are the norm. The Hebrew word for "life", ("chai") is also the Hebrew number 18, monetary gifts in multiples of 18 dollars (i.e. $36, $180, etc.) are considered to be particularly auspicious and have become very common, for Bat Mitzvahs as well as for other events such as birthdays. Present the gift at the party.

I take it she will enjoy anything you bring and your dress should be as appropriate as for a debutante ball, sweet sixteen party, Spanish quinceañera (15th birthday), or Catholic confirmation.

Good luck and have fun at the synagogue.

A Bat Mitzvah takes a lot of preparation for the child. They must learn Hebrew in order to read the 'Torah' (Old Testament) in Hebrew. It's a coming of age.

Money, or nice jewelry is appropriate. Follow the lead of others at the Temple. If gifts are presented there, then do so, otherwise, wait until the party.

Money...the coming of age is very symbolic..most Jewish parents use the money to set up a college fund for their children ..or a an account to save for the daughters wedding .Wear an outifit appropriate for a church function..nothing too flashy.

Put some money in a card and take it to the party. There will probably be a basket or box to put them in. Sometimes the party is at the temple/synagogue. (They don't call their place of worship a church) Dress as you would to go to your own church. If you are male, be prepared to cover your head when you enter the temple. There will probably be a basket of skullcaps available for this purpose.

In Judaism, the multiples of 18 are very symbolic. I would give $36 dollars, but present it in a decorated envelope or box, etc.
