12 sounds a little young to be dating without a chaperon.

Date at 12!! are you insane? At 12 she should still be playing Barbies not kissing etc! The world is a different place than when some of us were young and it isn't a safe place! Protect your child from this NO DATING! the age is up to you but consensus here seems to be 15 - 16 I agree.

No absolutely not. That would just be inviting trouble. She is still too young to fully recognize that theere are extreme consequences for her actions. If you let her have the freedom of an adult than she will act like one. Wait until she is sixteen before you let her date a boy all by herself. And even then make sure you knwo everything about where they will be and what they are doing. Even at an older age you still have to do an evaluation of who she is to determine whether or not she is even mature enough to entertain the thoguht of dating. Has she been educated on what to do or not to do in any situation that may come up?

I was 14 but I just dated boys that were in my church or someone that my Mom knew. Some girls and boys are
more mature at 12 than some at 20, so you as a mother
will know the right thing to do.

no no no! I would let them go to group things but not date till 16. I know that things have change but I have a teenage daughter and I let her go to group things but not really date till sixteen. Now a couple of time I had the boy she like and some other friends over and we took them places but I did not call it a date. How can you when mom and dad are there with you. It was not unusual for me to take five or six to the movies and we still have a drive-in here and we let them all get out in the grass and have fun.

I got my first boyfriend when i was 12. I lost my virginity to him at 14. And am now I am married to him at 24. I don't think 12 was too young for myself, but i would sure have a hard time letting my 12 year old date. ~~~

I was not allowed to date until I was at least in high school. I could have boys over to the house when my parents were home but that was about it. I'd say that she is to young to date, yes. Would you let her be in the car with a 16 year old?

I was 15, almost 16 when I started to date. I think 12 is WAY too young. I think at least wait until your daughter starts high school to let her date.

i started dating when i was 13 years old but my parents made me go out on a date with a group of friends that they trusted. i think thats fair to the kid and the parent if they are allowed to go out on a group date. i think 12 years old is a good age to start dating....just have them keep there hands off each other!

I was 12. But I'd say tell her to wait till she's 13, I see too many young kids "dating" now and no good comes of it. But be warned the kid will probably "date" anyways, but it will never get as serious as it could because they won't be able to tell you which means it'll be a lot harder for them to do stuff, like go places or whatever.
