Train Him

2006-08-11 10:15:42 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 1

Well, depends how old ur dog is, if it's a young dog, he/she is just probably not really used to people, and disipline her/him if they do it again, let her/him know it's not right. If he/she breaks skin, then thats when you should disipline her and make sure it's loud and clear. If ur dog is older, you should still disapline, but maybe ask the vet whats wrong, or maybe she/he sinces somethings wrong about the people she/he snaps at, either way, it's not nice and u should disapline her/him if they breack skin, or if it happens too often for comphert.

BITING:

First try redirection,
next try gums on teeth,
lastly try binaca spray in mouth.
also note: if problem with biting, never let their teeth touch you.. playing or not.

Redirection: Always ALWAYS carry a long play toy .. dangle it from your belt or something, stick in back pocket. When dog is about to run to you and try and bite, pull out toy and make sure it gets the toy in it's mouth and play tug of war or whatever. Don't let the dog bite first and then give toy.. that'd be rewarding for biting.

This works like a charm if you can do it right. Our dog now comes over to me.. gets all upset.. and then runs like a mad dog around the room, grabs toys to take her aggressions out on.. and goes nutty.. but she doesn't lay a tooth on me. It's because she was trained that when she wants to bite something.. she gets a toy in her mouth.. not my skin.

Gums: INSTANTLY when the dog bites you, from underneath with the one hand, lightly clamp the dogs cheeks against their mouth in their natural position, move hands up and over their teeth.. with cheeks now between sharp points of their teeth and your hand.. and make a fist.. to where you are pinching their skin between your hand and their teeth. Harder and harder until they let out a small whimper. Say "no bite" and then let go. Don't do any odd moves.. just let go and watch them walk away. If they come back for more, do it again.

Binaca spray: Easy, spray as soon as they touch their teeth to your hands. and say "no bite"

ALSO. some don't believe this is needed, but we taught our dog to NEVER have it's teeth on our hands.. whether biting or playing. Hold palm face up. Treat in palm. Thumb now covers the treat. Dog comes over.. only lift your thumb if it doesn't bite you. As soon as the dog does what you want, say "yes" and then give it the treat.

Few days later.. only give treat if you feel NO teeth touch you.

Few days later only give treat if dog licks your fingers.

This also teaches them to take treats easily instead of forcefully.

OOOh, I'd take Jessica's advice by spraying it with a water spritzer...LOL Seems to work great for her. I'd get rid of it. Sounds like the Alpha Dog, and it's inbred.

Train him well enough, give him commands and if he listens, give him a treat. Dogs are mean little things if they arn't properly trained and can cause a lot or trouble.

when he gets into a biting mood push his bottom lip over his teeth so he bites himself.... eventually he will stop biting.

Watch the dog whisperer. The dog is not the problem, you are.

Please offer more information, what kind of dog when does it bite? Is it nipping at people when you walk outside or is it in your home. etc.

obediance school or put him to sleep.
thats what the shelters do with agressive dogs, they put them down.
if he continues to bite people, one of them could just sue you and then force you to put them to sleep.
