Our puppy had hypoglycemia and recovered. he's been home for about a week now, eating and drinking regularly, very playful and runs around a lot. yesterday, i was puttin him down on the floor, but he leaped for it, it wasn't too high, about 4 inches off the ground. afterwards i saw him limping, but not yelping in pain. his leg was shaking, so we massaged it a bit, and he was able to walk. this morning he even ran around. but now (afternoon) he's lazy and limping again, he also has no appetite for food. i tricked him with mixed puppy can food and nutrical, and he managed to get some food in, and went back to sleep. the hypoglycemia cost us almost $1000 with hospitalization, should i take him back in or wait to see how his leg is doing?

I personally would assume that he pulled a muscle and overdid it when he's supposed to be recovering. If he's on antibotics or anything, keep in mind that they can make him kind of lethargic sometimes.

I would wait to see how his leg is doing. You might consider calling the vet and asking about it without bringing him in.

Well, first of all you've been taken to the cleaners by your Vet. Anyone (human or animal) has hypoglycemia when their bodies make too much insulin. The "cure" is to eat something high in complex carbohydrates, in order to give the extra insulin something to work on. Eating sugar or sugary sweets only makes the shaking worse. Your best bet would be to feed your dog a high carbohydrate dry dog food. And DON'T give him any people food, especially sweets!

My dog fractured a bone in his leg slightly and we took him in and he had surgery. We were told tho he would've healed fine. There went almost $1000! Since you said he's not whining or crying when you touch it, I would let him go for a couple of days and see how he does. BUT if the not eating continues, I'd definitely see the vet because of the hypoglycemia. Hope he gets better!! Lots of luck.

Get the dog to the vet STAT!!! As a human with hypoglycemia, I cannot express how important it is to eat.

May have pulled a muscle or bruised something. I would wait a day or 2 and see if he gets any beter. Call the vet and ask about giving him pain reliever.

He may have just pulled a muscle. watch him closely for a day or two if you see no improovment call a 24hr vet line or your own vet.. if he seems to be in pain you could try a 1/4 of an 81mg asprin. but its really your call..

I would wait for a bit... maybe a day, and then go see a vet. You can also give him/her a child's tylenol to reduce swelling. Hope he's ok!

Call the vet's office and ask. They'd know what to do.

Take him back. If your puppy does not want to eat then that is not too good.
