I know this is a very general question, but if you can think of specific things, that would be best. I have always had bad luck with girls and I think part of the reason is that I really cannot tell if a girl likes me. I've been led on a number of times, but I think it's mostly because I took a girl's friendly gestures as something more.
The situation I'm in now is with this girl I met at school. We've hung out a couple times, and I really like her. I just want to know if things are going in the right direction (i.e. not in the FRIEND ZONE). Thanks a lot for your replies.

Ok, girls are not that hard to interpet. If they like you as more than a friend, here are some things to look out for. She tries to hold your hand. she touches you a lot. she looks you in the eye when you are talking to her. She sits or stands close to you, compliments you on your cologne or how you look today, she smiles at you a lot, laughs at all your jokes even if they are stupid. These are all things that most girls do when they like a guy. Here's a tip, on a third or fourth outing with her, go to a movie, pull the whole "stretching arm trick." If she snuggles into you when you put you're arm around her, instead of pulling away..then she like you romantically. Most girls like it when the man makes the first move.
And a way to stay out of the friend zone..don't act like one of her girlfriends.

Well, flirting is like the number one way to show a guy that you're interested. Eye contact is also good. If you catch her looking at you from across the room, for example, especially if she blushes and looks away really quickly. If she makes it a point to talk to just you, and not all your buddies as well. If she hints that she's free over the weekend and you two should hang out. If she asks you out.

You know for me...and I am a girl...I just ask...plain and simple...there is no guessing that way...and if you ask her and she says no....be happy with the friends zone...my best relationship that I have ever had was with someone I have been friends with for a long time...sometimes getting to know someone is better in the long run...and maybe she is thinking the same thing of you.....does she know you like her?

First off when you all hang out if she tries to get you alone not with other friends its a good sign. If she lets you pay, good sign.
Other things.. when I'm into someone I touch them a lot, arms ect, if i'm 'cold' I warm up ect, also LOTS of eye contact, maybe say I saw something that made me think of them that day..ect.
For male friends its jokes, maybe pointing out cute girls i see, less contact, less eye contact

I smiled at his stupid jokes and didn't yell at him. I told him my personal stuff (I don't usually like to share that) .. Ok it could be just me, but I'm known to be dry and less romantic (yet I managed to have relationships lasting from 6 months to 5 years. I have no idea how did that happen. I'm also loner type person).

If she is always trying to be around you. Or she will find little ways to flirt with you. Then those are some signals to look for.
