Instead of mashed potatoes, I like to serve potatoes au gratin.
A nice hollendaise sauce on those aspargus would be nice. If you want a second vegitable, steam a mixture of thinly sliced zuchini, summer squash and diced tomatoes -- it adds a nice splash of color.
Good French bread is also a nice touch.
I also like to start with an appetizer -- perhaps avacado stuffed with crabmeat -- or just a nice cheese course. A small sorbet course before the mail meal is nice. Serve a small salad on chilled plates after the main course. For dessert, I like coffee ice cream in puff pastry drizzled with a chocolate sauce mixed with kahlua.
Of course, there may not be enough time for all of this.

Might I suggest roasted red potatoes instead of mashed, go with the greek salad recommended above, and go snag a good cabernet sauce off the internet for dipping Mary's little lamb in!

in my view because lamb could be so good tasting, i might pick in basic terms basic pasta with some butter and perchance some shreded parmisian cheese. possibly saute a sprint garlic and upload, yet no longer something to good.

try cooked bow-tie pasta with steamed or roasted broccoli garlic finely chopped and parm cheese and some olive oil and lemon juice. All mixed together...eaten hot, room temp or cold. It is tasty. I sometimes sub broccoli with asparagus too.

How 'bout boiled or roasted new potatoes with butter and parsley and some broccoli. I think any potato and veggie you like is just fine.

Don't forget the mint sauce/jelly! I've also heard that cranberry sauce is a good compliment to lamb.
Maybe for dessert a nice berry parfait would be good.
