It's definitely hard, I've been through it. If he has such strong feelings for you, I'd avoid breaking the news in person. Not only will it avoid conflict (because love can make you do crazy things), but you will be able to do it easier. It's hard to do it in person (for me, anyway), but when you can do it on the phone or through a text message, you can get the simple message across and be done with it. I know it sounds harsh. When I broke up with my ex, I did it over the phone. I was really upset, but I knew it had to be done... and after I did it, I completely cut him off until I knew he could be on a friends-only basis with me. I checked in on him to see if he was ready to be friends after about two months, but he still wasn't 100% over me. A month later, I checked again, and he was ready, and he had moved on, and now we have a great friendship, but nothing more. We both fully understand this.

However, if you do take my advice and do it over the phone/through a text message, have a friend do it with you. Don't have your friend do it for you or anything, just have them there for support and encouragement. Remember--they want what's best for you! They'll help you through it.

well he sounds like a pretty nice guy but im sure u have a good reason but just tell him that he is a REALLY nice guy but u just think it would be better if yall were friends and if he gets upset just stay away until he gets over and then he will be back to normal and i would do it over the phone

I think you should do it in person, but in a park or somewhere that if he gets all emotional he won't embarass you and maybe have a friend standing by incase he is like CooCoo for cocoa puffs!
