If you are driving in the left lane, do you give way to faster drivers and move over?

You know, a courtesy thing. Or do you create dangerous rolling roadblock situations?

In almost all states,left lane is for passing only.In some states now they are giving drivers approximately 30 sec to a minute to get around someone,if you dont and you are obstructing the flow of traffic and the cop is having a bad day.Its ticket time and that is a moving violation,check your states laws and see if they are cracking down on it.Hope I was helpful.I am a truck driver and we have to know about some of the new laws.

The left lane is known as the "hammer" lane for faster going vehicles. So yes it would be common courtesy for someone going slow in the left lane to move over into the right lane and let them go past. You better move over and out of the left lane if a big rig is on your butt, thats all I can tell you.

It is the law in most places to move over to the right if you are being overtaken by a faster vehicle IF it is safe to do at the time. The left lane is really only there to be used in a passing situation and you need not pass another vehicle just to be first in line to the next red light!

Really, it is the proper thing to do. And also it is the right lane that we should stay in all the time if we are going the speed of the traffic like we are supposed to do. In Ontario, where I live, I find that cars pass on the right and the left of other cars, and it is so dangerous!

Slower traffic should always stay to the right no matter how fast the driver in the left lane is going. Not your place to set the flow of traffic in any lane so move to the right, let them pass and when you get a mile or two down the road you can wave to them as the officer is walking up to their window and they here these words"License and Insurance Please". Just smile and be happy in the fact your insurance isn't going up.

I think i was taught that the left lane should be used for passing only, even though i find myself driving on it often. as long as i'm not in a hurry and in the left lane, i'll move over once someone gets remotely close to me in the same lane.

too often i remember being late for something and cursing slow drivers in the left lane.

it still bothers me to see a long line of cars behind one slow car in the left lane. more often than not, it's an old driver...

Yes, always. It is courtesy. I may not agree that someone should be going 100 mph, but that is beside the point. When you are driving, it is no time to be self righteous and judge other drivers. When they are going faster than you, move your slow a** over and let them (me!) pass.

i move over, but it seems every other driver i meet just hangs out in the fast lane. doing about a half an mph faster than the car right beside them. after a few miles they might think (for once) and maybe move over.

This answer would be case by case. If I'm flying myself and some idiot comes up damn near running me off the road, he can kiss my .....; however if I'm cruising at a comfortable speed and someone is working their way up to me and the next lane is clear, yeah, I'd get over. Besides if your not passing someone you should be in the slower lane anyway (by law), so if the lane is clear and your following the law, there shouldn't be a problem.

IN TEXAS ITS THE LAW THAT YOU HAVE TO MOVE OVER. IN NEW YORK ITS NOT A LAW AND THERE ARE LOTS OF DRIVERS WHO FOR WHAT EVER REASON DONT MOVE OVER YES THEY ARE A HAZARD AND CAUSE MORE PROBLEMS THAN THEY KNOW OR CARE,CAUSE THEY USUALLY ARE DRIVING 1-5 MPH FASTER THAN THE SPEED LIMIT AND THE LEFT LANE IS USUALLY MOVING 10-20 MPH FASTER...WELL THATS MY IN PUT I DRIVE 55. 45 MPG 60-65 36MPG 65-75-32MPG 7585 27MPG MAN I HAVE TO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS..LOL GOOD LUCK
