I live near the border, the schools in my local communities are predominately students of Mexican ethnicity.

Under Bush’s “No child left behind” the schools are failing with their low test scores.

I went to school down here, immigration is a big problem, MANY students don’t speak English at all.

I believe the schools are failing mainly because of students who do not speak English.

Some schools do pass, but they are in the upper-class “white” neighborhoods.

School in Mexican-American communities are being punished for immigration problems that are out of the school district’s control.

What should be done?

Why do you think the schools are failing?

That's because the illegals kids are using the resources meant for our children! Also, the extra time spent on non-english speaking kids, takes that time away from teaching the other kids! No wonder kids in border states are falling behind! The states do not have the resources, or the teachers to fill all these needs, so our children are being made to suffer!

No habla ingles!!!

That's why the schools near the border are failing!

It's NOT out of the school district's control. They are taking in illegal students with no papers, no vaccination records, etc.. As more illegals move into your area, the citizens are moving elsewhere. The schools have no choice but to take in illegals to fill the classrooms, otherwise jobs would be in jeopardy! But they could be in jeopardy because illegals are not paying any taxes, so who is going to suppport the school districts financially? The law-abiding, tax-paying citizens no longer live in that district, so how are they going to get taxed to keep the schools afloat?

since the laws protect anyone wanting to get an education to DO SO, including illegal immigrants there should be a better way of educating them, and all students. In other words, teach them in their native tongue. what if parents of "white" children moved to Italy because one of their parents got a job offer over there. would you want to send your child to anItalian school knowing that your child would not benefit from sitting in that classroom all day? I don;t think so. you would want your child to learn something and get something out of being in school. I know that most people are using English as a Second Language in their countries, but Spanish is being used as one as well. Besides, what is wrong with a student learning in his mother-tongue, than transferring what he has learned to English thereby learning in two languages. being bilingual is a wonderful thing and many more parents should WANT their children to know multiple languages. Since we can't do a whole lot to change the laws, why don't we try to embrace those who ARE here trying to get educated and just GET ALONG instead of judging them for who they are?

because students are being required to take tests in english before they've had the opportunity to learn english.

nclb requires teachers to teach to the test rather than providing the education that is relevant to their students.

the wealthy white schools get critical thinking, project based learning, arts and enrichment programs. the poor schools get drill and kill with teachers required to follow a script rather than use their own experience and knowledge to teach the way that they know best.

citizens and politicians push to banish bilingual education so ELL's (english language learners) cannot begin their education in their native language while also learning english. that makes them fall behind in school while being confused and frustrated about english.

nclb allows parents to move their children out of failing schools into a better school, so why don't you take advantage of that option? personally, i would prefer my child be raised in an ethnically diverse school than one that has high test scores, although the type of teaching required of "failing" schools does bother me, and i would prefer my child have access to arts and a more diverse curriculum. that's the difficult part.

oh, yeah, and schools are failing everywhere, including where there are no immigrant students. thanks to nclb, more schools are called "failing" than are called "successful". what do you think that does to the students, teachers and parents in those schools??

students are failing everywhere, teachers can only do so much and they are not getting paid enough..

i think one solution would be to pay for school, if a parent pays for their child's schooling then, the parent will make sure his child is learning.

now there should be a law that says, English Only, if you can not speak it, no school until you learn. English should be a requirement to be accepted in a school.

ok, enable's say I knew aliens are gonna abduct me and erase my suggestions 24 hours past to it happening. i might collect all my closest acquaintances, those i surely love and in basic terms attempt and positioned onto words what they have meant to me and that however my suggestions and memories would be long gone, as long as i'm myself i'm going to in no way forget them. i might ask my mum and dad and a few of those closest acquaintances for forgiveness for each and all of the failings that I surely have positioned them by using. And final, i might probable rob a band, commute to Las Vegas and then thieve or purchase a Corvette ZR1 and race in the process the desert to l. a. interior the night (i've got continually had to try this).

Well, if we could repeal the decision by the supreme court saying that even if children are not legal residents of the United States, we could kick them all out and then instead of money going towards educating the ungrateful (after all, if they came here legally, that would be showing they are grateful for what they get), it would go to educating the people that deserve the benefits of our tax dollars.

That is why the US should officially become bi-lingual like Canada. That way these students could be taught in Spanish and learn English slowly through the school system.

Because politicians are more interested in making themselves look good than caring about people.Especially those that would deny obvious problems and spend the majority of their time looking for scapegoats to blame them on instead of actually acknowledging that a problem exists.
