depends how much you want to spend. When it is a hot day and the kids want to just lounge about the garden I get paint brushes and water and the kids paint all over the path . As it is only water they are using then it soon dries up and they can create another masterpiece! this usually fills up half an hour! other than that I would say swimming is always a favourite

Make then clean up the house. Just kidding. Take them to the park, zoo, or those sort of places where they can see and experience new things.

if they are young you could maybe get them workbooks, with so many pages per point and so many points per prize- money, toys, extra minutes before bedtime/ of TV
if they are pre-teens then try asking them- they may have ideas of places to revisit: museums, parks, zoos. try a local ceramic painting workshop
though it's probably too late to consider now, holiday clubs are fun, and many week-long classes are held with local councils

take them to the park and tire them out, and take them on a long walks, you'll probably be more knackered then them but think of how fit you would be.
