You need to make sure you're not encouraging the barking. If you are, stop.
If you are trying to get him to stop, try a squirt bottle, or a tin can with pennies in it (shake it when he's being rather noisy). Give his silence the command of "quiet" and praise him when he's not barking. Give no attention other than water in a squirt bottle or the penny thing when he's barking.

And not all beagles are noisy barkers/howlers. My 2 beagles hardly ever bark, but that's because of how I've trained/raised them. A good friend of mine has had beagles her entire life and only one of them barked a lot.

Barking, chewing and digging are a Beagle's three favorite things to do in life - wish you had researched that before you got one!

Beagles are social animals, bred to live and hunt in packs. They HATE being alone and may bark constantly until you return. You can't train this behavior away - don't get a shock collar! That is really cruel for a dog that can't help himself.
Either get him a companion, take him to doggy day care, give him away or get him surgically debarked. It's no more painful than having him neutered and it won't affect his temperament - he will still make a sound, just not as loud.

For chewing, don't leave him unsupervised in the house. Either put him in a crate or keep him on a leash tied to your belt. Find some toys he really likes - try a Kong filled with peanut butter or a flavored rawhide bone. Correct him when he starts to take anything but a dog toy.

You could try lemon juice in its mouth or a squit bottle when it barks, as for the chewing, if its still a baby its just teething, if its older it mite be board, or it dosent like the toy, take it to the pet store and let it choose its own toy.

That's very annoying. I feel for you especially because they have a very solid loud bark ! Have you seen Dog Whispers? It comes out on the national geographic channel. May be you can get some tips from there.

A bark collar. They work great. Just don't leave it on for long periods at a time. Follow the instruction provided and you will be pleased.

You can't train your beagle to stop barking. They are bred to bark/bay. Always check out breeds before bringing them home. It's like trying to keep cattle dogs from herding your kids around, or weims to stop killing birds in your yard. You can't do it if it's what they were bred and born to do.

impossible, it's a beagle. I have a 10 year old (neutered) male who barks at anything and everything. but since he's getting on in his years he's calmed down a little. but enough for me.

Make Snoopy stop barking by refusing to let him sleep on top of his red dog house. If that doesn't work, take his typewriter away.
