To the idiotic minority, they will just despise each other for the sake of it. For the proper religious (and I mean church/chapel go'ers) they may totally disagree with each other but respect each other as living beings. For the rest of us, its a 90mins banter, whoever loses hides for a day and then it lookin forward to the next one.

I don't know if I'd say love: but for most decent Old firm fans there is a grudgeing respect for the oppposition. Everyone in Glasgow and on its periphery: works or has friends who support the other half of the old firm and by and large most get on well together and enjoy harmless banter about football and religion.
There are however a small minority of fascists on both sides who are entrechend in small-minded and petty rivalries and are only happy to propogate a social divide between people that doesn't really exist for most ordinary individuals.
Old Firm match day is however slightly different and the passion of both sets of supporters is at its most vehement. Obviously, Celtic want to beat Rangers and vice versa: tensions do run high in the lead up and in the immediate aftermath though sporadic incidents of love breaking out do remain to be reported!!
Neverthless, in general Old Firm fans have more in common than anything that divides them and generally do get on well whether at work or in other aspects of their social life. This realisation has however has still to dawn for a minority in both sides and indeed for those unconnected to football in Scotland who are happy to judge both sets of fans as bigots.

They are not all bad, just the sectarian element of hanger-on-ers - Rangers fans are among the best behaved in the world, they just enjoy seeing the hoops getting hammered - no different than Everton-Liverpool or the aggro between some London clubs...

The more mature ones appreciate that they need each other for commercial reasons. I also believe that they know what to expect from each other whereas a new rival may throw confusion into the works.
