It seems these days everyone that I run into: customer service, people in college, administration grunt "UH-HUH" when I say "bye" or "have a nice day" or even "hello".

This happened 3 times today and it happens frequently when I am out or at work. Strangers and people that know me do this to me. What does this mean?

This seems SO RUDE to me when you say goodbye or hello to someone and they say "uh-huh". because if someone said "bye" to me, I would say "bye" back.

it is rude; there sure are some ignorant people out there. This uh-huh phenomenon also extends to "thank you"-for example, when I buy a cup of coffee and the person brings it to me, I say thank you and get "uh-huh" back. The proper response used to be you are welcome.....oh well, just another indication that american culture is well on its way down the crapper.

If you went away from home for college, maybe that is how the people there respond to everyone. This includes there family members. Think of it this way, you grew up where saying "hello" or "how are you" as proper etiquette. Well, they grew up to everyone saying "UH-HUH". Or maybe it's a modern way of saying ditto (think Ghost). Just remember if you think it's rude don't reply to anyone like that. You maybe doing it without realizing.

People tend to get down on themselves and get pissed off for no reason. Its sad but it happens. Just stay positive and do what you think is right in this world. Good luck.

That is rude...but, there's nothing you can do about it. Just keep being your pleasant self and don't let rude people get you down.
