somewhat. Your weight loss really depends more on your lifestyle than nursing. It does help in the first few months, I lost 30 lbs in 2 weeks (half of that was during delivery of course, and I had only gained 30 lbs to begin with) but I've stayed at the same weight since then, and my son is a year old now. When I was able to work out, I think nursing helped burn off some of the extra calories. We'll have to see now that I'm starting a serious excercise & weight loss goal/program how it helps. So yes, it can help get the baby weight off, but if you were overweight beforehand it will take extra effort to get the rest off.

I lost all of my weight nursing and not changing a thing about my eating habits or adding additional exercise. I was, and still am, a stay at home mom, so I have a fairly active day. I nursed both of mine until they self weaned, but the weight was gone by 6 months.
It's different for every woman, but most nursing mothers loose most, if not all, of the weight if they exclusively nurse. Supplement feeding with formula will decrease how much weight you loose.

I havn't lost much weight since the birth of my daughter due to nursing or any other diet! I always heard that you need to give it at least 6 months before you see a weight loss, but that didn't happen for me either. I tried the South Beach diet for a couple of months, but I didn't lose any pounds. I just stopped gaining it. My recommendation is that you excersise as much as you can if you feel up to it. That is the only way to lose the weight. Nursing to lose it doesn't work! I know from experience!

I lost 26 lbs. but I stopped nursing at 1 1/2 months. But yeah you're going to gain weight if you don't eat healthy. If your not eating right, although you may be eating less, your body will still collect fat. So try to eat healthier for both your sake & your baby. If you do this you'll lose weight in no time because when you nurse your uterus contracts, in a way it's like doing exercises without actually having to move. You should thank your baby.

Personally, I think that's a myth. When I was pregnant with my first child, everyone kept telling me that I would lose a lot of the weight while nursing. Well, that never happened!

I dunno about anyone else, but I lost all of my pregnancy weight by 6 months. (i have a high metabolism anyways)
I know some moms have trouble looing that last 5-10 pounds until baby weans, but then thier bodies may have required that little extra to maintain the milk production. It usually disappears after baby weans.
Of course some BC does make you keep 10 pounds or so (ie: Depo) because the hormones are tricking your body into thinking your pregnant even though you aren't. - which prevents you from ovulating.
