I work at a day care center (actually called a Child Development Center) Here in Sacramento you need at least a 10th grade education and good english skills to become a teacher's assistant. It helps if you have some units in Early Childhood Education. Lots of patience helps, and a love of children.

To start working in a day care center as a childcare assistant you do not need special training(however some states now requires that every worker has a certain numbers of hours of training. So check with your state) It is also a good idea to have cpr/first aid training(Most daycares requires that). You should also have some back ground in caring for kids.YOU NEED TO HAVE A LOT OF PATIENCE AND A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR. BE CARING AND UNDERSTANDING.AND REMEMBER YOU CAN PLAY TO THE KIDS LOVE IT WHEN THEIR TEACHERS ARE DOWN ON THE FLOOR PLAY TOYS..ETC..

If you are wanting to be a teacher you may need training.

You can check out this www.carecoures.com
They are able to provide training through home-study.

depends on the state, here in TN all you "have" to have is a high school diploma

it is preferred that you have an associate of early childhood education.

also you need to be certified in CPR and First Aid

and just to let you know, the pay is only good if you work for a state center, personal owned ones pay crap, it doesn't matter how much experience or schooling you have.

It depends on your state... some states only require minimal education- the ability to read and write. Others require specific child development courses from an accredited college. In California, we are required to have at least 6 units of college child development classes, but lots of places will not hire unless you have 12 or more units. You will want to have child development classes no matter where you live, though, in order to have a good perspective on what to expect from preschool-age children. These classes will help you know what is typical (and not typical) of children this age, so that you can better help your children develop. This will also give you the ability to be able to identify children who are not fitting into the "typical" developmental pattern so that you can refer them for additional help. In addition to the schooling you will need, you need to have a certain personality. People who work with very young children need to be energetic, patient, flexible, willing to learn, creative and passionate about what they do. You need to have good people skills (for dealing with parents) and organizational skills (for keeping track of all the kid's goals). Most of all, you need to LOVE working with children. If they are not your passion, you will get burned out quickly. Look on your state's Department of Education website to find out more about the standards in your state. Good luck!

Patience and a love for children.

You probably also can get some degrees in social work, child psychology, etc. I think an AA would be enough, but a bachelor's would get you more pay.

My churches daycare says they would hire me for $8.00 hr at 20 hours a week with no schooling or daycare experience. There is always more than one person watching the babies in the daycares there tho. My church is a huge church with lots of activities during the week and different daycare rooms for kids in age brackets.

In Phoenix you have to be 18 or older & have a diploma/GED. They will also do fingerprints, FBI background check & child support check & a TB test. And yes first and foremost, PATIENCE.
