Put it into 2 or 3 ponies one below the other. Then you can leave it that way or twist each into a bun or regular braid.Begin braiding at the top and when you get to the next pony start mixing in the hair and continue braiding it into the 3rd lower pony and finish with a sturdy long braid that will stay in the back( and not swing within grabbing hands distance!).It is really great with thick hair because the smaller ponies will stay tighter and not be so weighted which makes them loose. It also makes your hair look much longer when you have the 3rd pony at the bottom of your head and the 1st one at the top back! Best wishes and love those little old folks. I appreciate your career choice and wish nursing homes paid better! It is like teachers. Ya'll do very important work but never get the right pay!

I put my hair up in three little buns in a vertical row...it's cute and it stays all day. I also split my hair in half (vertically and make a knot in the top half and secure it. Then take the bottom half and twist it while wrapping it around the knot--like you would make a regular bun. it looks like a huge cinnamon roll that's really graceful. I always get compliments on it.
Or you could do a french braid and tuck the ends up underneath to hide the braid part.

it depends on wat ur style is, a lot of people like messy buns, and up high pony tails. or u can try tying a high ponytail than making a braid off of it. or just simply making braids, but it can look too girly if u dont make em right. or to take care of all ur hair problems u can go bald i guess, lol. another cute style is, right after a shower mousse up ur hair and make a messy bun, u wont have to touch it all day and it wont b in ur way. u can also try making a braid to the side there always cute but u gotta redo them once in a while cause they tend to fall apart often.

Make a low braid then use a clip, then bend it up and use a large barrette to clip it to your head with the ends tucked down on the inside.
Do a low pony tail a little bit away from your head, and bend it up while twisting then secure it up with some hair sticks, you can either tuck the ends in = french twist. or leave them out for a funkier look.
Put you half you hair up in a pony in a nice barrette then at the nape of your neck do a bun
Part your hair all the way down to the nape of your neck, make two braids close to your ears. wrap your braids across your head towards each other, (either low or high) and secure with two barretts to hide the "tails"

try a messy bun!! I don't really know how to do one though. I'd just type it in on your search bar and see what comes up. You could also curl your hair and then put it in pig tails or in a pony tail which is a little diff. than just a plain ponytail.

you need to french braid component of your hair (or your bangs, in case you have any) and placed it back right into a intense ponytail, a messy bun without attempting continuously looks good too, or 2 french braids in case you recognize how, that's.

try some interesting braids or try different ponytails/buns. you'd be surprised at how the placement of a ponytail/bun changes your look
