It depends on the thermometer, electric in the ear, glass under the armpit and hold it there for 3 minutes. If you report the temperature to a doctor say how you took it because the location will give a different temperature and accuracy goes with knowing the temp and location. If the baby is also unusually fussy, you might want to take the baby to see a doctor. If the baby is breastfed and has a temperature, take the baby to a doctor even if the baby isn't fussy. Breastfed babies don't usually get sick and when they do it tends to be more serious than the common cold.

There are several ways to take your child's temperature: axillary (armpit), oral, rectal, tympanic (ear), and skin. Also, there are different types of thermometers used for each: digital and chemical dot (such as NextTemp).
We do not recommend a glass mercury thermometer due to safety issues with mercury and broken glass.
Axillary Temperature
An axillary temperature is taken in the armpit (axilla). This is the safest way to take a temperature for anyone. We recommend that you take your infant's or young child's temperature this way. You can use a digital or chemical-dot thermometer.
Place the tip of the thermometer in the armpit and hold the arm snuggly against the body.
Hold this position until the digital thermometer beeps, or according to the manufacturer directions for chemical-dot thermometers.
Take the thermometer out and read it.

The number one way is a rectal temp. That is the most accurate. Next is under the arm, but you have to add a degree. You should not take an ear temperature in children as it is considered least accurate.

okay nasty I know but put some vaseline on the end of a thermometer and insert into the babys butt. It's the more accurate way to get a temp for a baby this young. Good Luck!

You could put a thermometer under his armpit and gently hold it there with his own arm folded down on it. Or you could use a rectal thermometer,(It has a stubby end) and lubricate it with Vaseline and insert it "gently" just the tip, into his rectum. They now have temp strips which you place on the babies forehead.
Can you call your medical helpline for a nurses help?

The best way to take a baby's tempurature is under the armpit.
The baby won't be able to squirm and move. Also hold the arm down to keep the themomater in place.
It worked for my two kids.
Hope this helps

The most accurate is rectal, however you need a specific rectal thermometer. If one is not available, use a tympanic thermometer, a specific one designed for the ear. DO NOT use an oral thermometer in the rectum or ear, check out which type of thermometer you have. Rectals have red on the end, oral has blue on the end.

If you have no experience with taking the baby's temperature down there...then it's best to get the one for the ear. It takes only seconds. You can actually break the thermometer ...I never used the one for the behind with my two boys.

under the armpit, or in the ear if you have a ear thermometer, he will get mad if you put it in his rear, but that is the most accurate way to take a temp.
