I used to call my girl while I was depoloyed, and it would piss her off b/c she was always sleeping and those were the only times I could call her.
Toward the end of our deployment, she refused to answer the phone in the middle of the night b/c she knew it was me calling, and if I was calling that meant I was still alive.
It frustrated the hell out of me, but what could I do? I was 10,000 miles away from her.
I saved lots of money on long-distance satellite phone calls though! (while other guys spent TONS of money on phone calls to their wives/girlfriends)
Eventually we split up after I returned to the USA. Methinks she was dating others, but I'll never know.
At least she had the decency to string me along while I was deployed, and NOT write a Dear John to me. I'll respect her for not doing that, b/c it would've squashed my hopes/spirit while being deployed.
Are you listening, ladies? Don't dump/divorce a guy while he is deployed (even if you start dating/fooling around with other guys and you 'feel the need to tell him the truth.') Believe me, it is better he find out later (after he's home) than for you to tell him while he's gone. I've seen guys become devastated from this while in a war zone, then they become useless liabilities to the mission.
So ladies, sort it all out AFTER he returns, NOT while he's away.

My Husband Has been deployed many times over the past 6 years in the marine corps, and (sadly) yes i have missed his call. But as you problem know unfortunately it does happen, Ive found that most of the spouses over there understand.
And i completely agree with the previous person that said something about leaving or filing for divorce while they are over seas. I think that is a really good way of distracting them from there job and getting them killed. Also very cowardly as well.

i get worried when i dont get a phone call from my husband!!! ive been told MANY times though that 'no news is good news' so i try to keep high spirits about that. i have missed phone calls from him though, but he always leaves me sweet and romantic messages so i can hear and find comfort in his voice. ONLY 2 MORE MONTHS TO GO in a 6 month deployment!!!!!!!!!!!

all the time. worst thing you can do is put your life on hold and never leave the house i just in case he might get a chance to call.
That's what answering machines are for.. that way you can play it over and over again when you need to hear his voice...

Are you proud of your husband? I really hope that you are. You sound like a really caring wife.
Could you please tell him that we (at least I) really appreciate what he does for our Country. Also, could you tell him that I wish him the best? You also, I really appreciate you too. It must be really hard to let someone so close to you go for such a long time. You are just as brave as your husband.
Thank You!
