If they are flea free, then it could be allergies. Try gving them some liquid childerns benadryl (1/2 cc per pound max)....so a 20 pound dog would get 10 cc max. Try 1/2 that amount and see if that helps and go up from there.....5 cc for a 20 pound dog. You can give them that every 12 hours. If that doesn't seem to help, then I would see a vet to make sure it is nothing serious. Good Luck!!

If it is from fleas over the counter shampoo and things don't work. If you know the weight of your dogs you can just go to the vets and get Frontline. A flea medicine you put on back of shoulder blade. If it isn't fleas take your dogs to the veterinary , they could have something other, such as allergies , ringworm ect...
For the wounds use iodine. It will be work on scabbing it over with in 24 hours , and it doesnt hurt the dog.

I'm assuming you have them on flea control medication (you should use the kind from your vet, Frontline or Advantex, the storebought ones like Hartz are useless). For problems with dry skin, olive oil on their food does help a lot, but if it is so bad that they are biting open their own flesh, you should take them to the vet; it is probably an allergy (although both of them having an allergy seems strange) or some other parasite/irritant.

My Daughter and also a friend of ours have dogs that are allergic to fleas. They will scratch and bite till they pull their hair out and leave sores. The Vet had told both of them to treat the yard as well as the dogs. Solarcaine or Americane will help heal and dry up the sores.

i have a west highland white terrier who has allergies...take them to the vet and get an allergy shot...
when she gets allergies really bad...no shampoo or topical medication will work..she still continues chewing...she gnawed all the hair off her legs at one point before i could figure it out...with research...once she has the shot use something like frontline to keep fleas away in case its a reaction to the fleabites if thats what the cause it....if not..its still handy to have on there to prevent fleas...works great...

In addition to everyone else's answers I just wanted to add that dogs also scratch when they are nervous. Although your dogs seem to go beyond this.

You might want to go to the vet and see if they have flees. That might be the problem becuase as you probley know when dogs scratch, that might mean that they have flees.

Your dog may have allergies, I took my dog to the vet and that is what they said. They gave my pup an allergy shot (kind of expensive) and she is one happy camper now!
