It is very serious. A blood clot is a coagulation (most of the time) of the blood, and there will be a time where that clot moves to a smaller blood vessel causing blood deficiency in that particular organ or tissue. Lack of blood in a particular tissue means no oxygen to the cells, which means the cells will die (and so will the organ). You'd be doing yourself a great favor to see the doctor as soon as you can, it's not an emergency but try to go to the doctor within the next few days if possible. Don't worry you won't lose your leg, at least not if you see a doctor soon. The sooner you go the better chances you have to heal from it.
Meanwhile, consider taking at least 2-5 tablespoons of olive oil (extra virgin is great), also some garlic and onions, as much as you want. These three foods have an excellent capability to dissolve blood clots AND lower blood pressure.
This is a typical case of "it's bad, but not too bad if you treat it now".
I certainly don't want to freak you out, as it's not my intention, but it is your health and you should definitely see a doctor.
Good luck :)

I suffered from blood clots twice, one of them almost killed me cause it was heading to the lungs, I had to be hospitalized for 17 days, in bed and could not move, the size of my leg never returned normal while the other clot passed without any major problems, I found out that I had factor 5 which is a blood disorder. so, what are you waiting for, go to the doctor NOW

Blood clots are dangerous. If they travel near your heart or god forbid your brain then you have a low chance of living. How do you know it's a blood clot? If your leg is giving you a lot of pain then it may be your sciatic nerve and you will still need to see a doc or chiroprator to fix this. To sum it up the cost of the doc may be worth it when he saves your life.

Go see a doctor NOW. If you really do have a blood clot there are things they can do to correct it without cutting off your leg.
But even if it came down to that would you rather be missing a leg or DEAD.
GO TO THE DOCTOR.

Stop wasting time asking questions on the internet and see a doctor. Blood clots can be fatal if they reach your heart or your brain.

Yes, it is dangerous. They will likely verify that it is a clot and then treat it with medication. It is not likely that you will have your leg cut off though! Don't worry, but do go to the Dr. or ER now.
