Kitty may need antibiotic along with a cortisone shot. I would check with a different vet. She may have a condition called scabbies. A bath would feel good and help relieve the condition, use an oatmeal based shampoo that you can purchase at quality vet clinics. keep in mind that your cat may have more than one condition. My cat had the scabs last year and she also has hyperesthesia syndrome. It is a condition in which she started balding out on her hips and the lower part of her back.. it is a very sore condition in which they develop a soreness under the skin similar to diabetics and they constantly lick at it balding it out. Treatment is 1/4 grm phenobarbital every 12 hours. Please see another vet, when my cat developed those scabs, it went on for a few months. I hope it never comes back. You may in the meanwhile check oin line research feline and skin conditions. But a good vet is your only way.

When ever there is any kind of change with weight loss or fur loss then he is not normal there is something wrong. You can not look at a cat and say it is normal then state balding and weight loss in the question. He needs a vet to find out what is wrong and what to do for him. Purring also means he is not feeling well. R P CAT

I was going to tell you how some cats are very allergic to flea bites. One of my cats lost a lot of fur during a flea investation and had wet sores on her. I treated the sores with cortisone cream which worked real fast. Of course I treated the cats for fleas too and eventually they were okay.
But since you have already seen a vet about this just continue with the treatment prescribed...some things take time to work.
Good luck.

My cat had this problem a while back she lost weight and had scabs and I was worried if you took her to a vet and he gave antibiotics and it didn't work then have you tried changing her food? I had to change my cat's diet. She gained weight and looked gorgeous. You might want to try rubbing some Neosporin or Triple antibiotic ointment onto the scab might stop her from scratching too. You could also take her to a groomer or give her a bath...with protection of course...Hope this helps

You should make an appointment with a different vet and tell them exactly what you said here. Take the empty bottle of antibiotics to show them. Experimenting with home remedies given by people who haven't even seen your cat could waste valuable time if your cat has something serious.

She could have mange, or she could have a flea allergy. I had a dog with a flea allergy who had the same problem. What we started doing was putting a doggy sweater coated on the inside with flea powder, which cut way down on the fleas and allowed her hair to grow back (she'd been scratching so much she was digging her hair out and causing scabs). If she's not wearing a flea collar or anything, try that. Also, watch her and see what she gets into. See if she's drinking any cleaners or antifreeze anywhere, and put a stop to it, or if she's eating weird plants.

Does your cat have fleas? You should return to your vet and tell them the antibiotic did nothing.......most likely theyll try something different
