Cats don't actually "hate" water, it's more the fact that baths are not exposing the cat to water on their own terms. Cats are very independent animals, and prefer to do things in time on their own. I've had several cats that enjoyed "going for a swim" in the bathtub if you fill the tub with water and give them some time to get used to the fact that there's water there. However, never ever leave a cat unattended in a bathroom with a tub full of water. They can fall in and potentially drown (a very rare occurence, but why take the chance?). I have a cat that not only loves baths and showers, he has his own tub toys too.

Cats prefer bathing themselves because their tongue acts not only as a washcloth but as a tiny comb. Getting a cat wet will not aid in getting small bits of dirt or debris out of their fur as effectively as their own natural grooming tool will. Cats generally don't need a water bath unless they've found something nice and stinky to roll in (yes, they will do this, it's not just dogs) or they're outdoor cats and have become matted or muddy.

The reson cats dont like water is because they like to clean their own fur. When you give them a bath imagine the work they face then getting their fur back to normal.

Instinctively cats cleanse themselves from impurities. This instinct is what caused them not to like water. But you'll be amazed that a lot of cats actually don't mind water (especially if they're in a circumstance where they have to be in contact with water)

I'm not sure whats w/ the fear of water, but I've learned after trying to bathe mine and almost getting killed doing it, the maybe "Kitty Wipes" sold at the pet stores are a better option.

CATS ARE FINICKY AND THEY DON'T LIKE TO DRY ALL OF THEIR BODIES OFF AT ONE TIME, CAUSES HUGE HAIRBALLS. SOME CATS REALLY DON'T MIND THE WATER. WITH MY CAT I HAVE TO SHUT THE BATHROOM DOOR WHEN I AM IN THE TUB B/C HE WILL FLY AROUND THE DOOR AND JUMP IN THE TUB WITH ME. I THINK THAT I TRAUMATIZED HIM WHEN HE WAS LITTLE. I MADE HIM COME TO THE BATHROOM W/ME WHEN IT WAS BATH OR SHOWER TIME AND HE WOULD ALWAYS SET ON THE SIDE OF THE TUB OR GET IN THE SHOWER WITH ME AND TALKS TO ME. BUT THEN I HAVE TO DRY HIM SO I GUESS HE DON'T MIND SINCE I DO ALL THE WORK.

cus ur not suppose to give them one cus they have a special oil that they create that protects their fur and if that is taken away ur cat is exposed to deadly deseases and they catch them easier
and they rather clean themselves cus after they clean themselves a certain coating protects their fur that comes off their tounge and if you want to know more go ask a vet or a look it up at ur local library or quicker look it up on the internet
so dont give them a bath trust me

not many animals (land dwellers) like immersion water: some large Cats will swim rivers. House cats do not like being wet all over.
