Or wait while you get in or out of an elevator before them? Is it expected or do you consider it a nice act when a man does those types of things?

I have to agree with (It might have been!!'s)

It separates the little boys from the real men.

It doesn't matter to me, I just like the insight to which is which.

I never expect it, it is nice when it is done but why should you have to hold the door open for me or wait until I get into the elevator?

I don't expect anyone to hold the door for me or wait while I get in or out of an elevator, etc. In fact, very frequently, I do those things for others, including men. That said, it is courteous to hold doors or allow someone to go ahead of you. Good manners are a terrific way to make friends!

The only reason I do not expect it is because so few men do it. I expect the men in my life to do it. With regard to the general public, I absolutely love to have the door held for me and any man who does it will definitely be rewarded with a gracious thank you and a big smile. BTW, I hold the door for others as well. It is rude to let a door slam in someone's face, regardless of gender.

I personally love a well mannered man,it shows me he was raised right. A man that is rude and impolite is an annoyance and he must also know how to eat in a nice restaurant as well. Good table manners are a must.
I will open the door for a stranger if i am passing thru ahead of him .Its only being polite and well mannered.
I would never go out with a man twice(I'm married now)
if he was an ill mannered lout. my husband is the sweetest most well mannered man in the world.: )

As a lady, I don't expect it, but I do say thank you anytime a man or woman holds open the door for me. I appreciate it and sometimes it makes my day.

i do expect this out of a man....its shows that he was raised right and he's a gentlemen....i dislike it when a guy does not do these things they are so rude,,,You can be walking right behind them -they go in the building and don't have the decency to wait just 10 secs to hold the door open for you....

I don't expect that from any man these days. I also don't expect them to slip right past me while I'm opening the door for myself, but it happens.

Yes, I'm a big believer in chivalry and I've been teaching my now 9 year old nephew to hold the doors for the ladies.
