Cats hate oranges but your garden might look a bit odd. You can get stuff from pet shops to spray that keep them out of the garden. As a last resort slab your garden.

Get a bunch of little mouse traps and set them. Then turn them over 'gently'. When the cats step on them they will SNAP!, but not harm the cat other than scaring the poo out of him. He will eventually avoid that area. Moth balls might work, but if you don't like cat poo why would you want LION poo out there? (o.O)

You get your own cat - they keep others away and don't sh*t in their own backyard!
Seriously though, try sonic scarers - my grandfather swears by them. Or keep a washing up liquid bottle filled with a mixture of Jeyes fluid and water by your back door and squirt them when they come into your garden.

Lion sh*t. What? You don't believe me? You can get it.
Also, you could have sprinklers with sensers, so when they come into the garden they get sprayed. Also, if you've got gravel it will appear as cat litter, but the sprinklers will make them stay away after a time.
