A co-worker of mine is overweight. Let's call her Katey. Katey doesn't seem to eat a lot. Anyway another worker (who is chinese and weighs all of 110 pounds) we'll call her Jane, came and said Katey was eating too much and she should cut down. Katey got upset and said all she had was a bowl of Special K for breakfast. For lunch she had a turkey sandwich with lettuce on wholewheat bread, an apple juice and some of those baked lays chips for lunch. She said she had been trying to cut down and was upset because she feels quilty every time she eats. Do you think Jane had any right to say this to her? Jane said she only said it to Katey for her own good.

Babyface - Katey is already well aware that she is overweight. She told me she is trying to eat better and started walking every night. She just didn't feel she needed to tell everybody this.

No she definitely had no right! My roommate and best friend is Asian... she eats like an absolute pig, but like your co-worker Jane she remains a twig. Probably weighing in at less than 110 pounds. I, on the other hand am a little overweight, nothing excessive, but people definitely wouldn't group me in the thin category. Average yes... but not thin. Anyway at no point in our friendship would she ever tell me to eat less. She respects me for the person I am, and the person I choose to be. Ultimately it is none of Jane's business. If Katey is happy with herself or even if she isn't, she is the one who must make the decision what is for her 'own good' and what is not. However, Katey must also remember that the only person who can make her feel bad or guilty or upset is herself. No one can make us feel something about ourselves without our consent! Just remind her of that!

you yourself said that katey is overweight but you just did not have the guts to tell her... but jane did. as the third wheeler here, i would say that jane is a better friend than you are. she showed concern even though she knew that katey might reject her after telling her. she put her friendship on the line cuz she knew that katey might be in trouble one day because of her being overweight. treasure jane's friendship. she is someone who will sacrifice anything for a friend.

it's none of her business. she is just a b!tch and that is why she said it. if i was "katey" i would tell her skinny butt to eat something and then sit on her.
