It is true, many myths say dogs and cats but especially cats can see (dogs I believe only sense ghosts) them. If you are interested in seeing what they see, you can try staring into it's iris and sometimes, you can see a reflection of the spirit. But that's just from what I hear.
Of course, aside from supernatural phenominon, you could just have a paranoid cat or one who can see better than others and is attacking either fleas or scabies in your house.
Regardless, you shouldn't let the cat scare you, make it know who's boss and unless the spirits hurt the cat, make it more afraid of you than them. When it acts out, give it a good knock on the head, after a while, it act just like any person who can see ghost, they keep it more to themselves as the find that others start thinking they are crazy when they speak out.

Well, I am a cat owner and have had other cats in the past (12).
This is just the nature of a cat. They get crazy sometimes. They also see and hear things you can not. So remember just the slightest movement of your foot or a string on the rug could make kittie frisky.
The only time you should worry about him is if you see a change in his eating pattern or in his littler box. If he is playing its a good thing.
If you really need to calm him down there are things you can buy at your pet store like: FEILAWAY. But not all cats react to the smell.
Good Luck! >^..^<

Sounds like you found my run away cat or have one of his relatives on your hands! I had a tiger cat that did the same thing - would attack our legs whenever we had short pants on. He was a total freak. He would meow and attack our other cat. He did really weird things all the time like jump on top of doors and sniff around, attack the walls, etc... I don't think it's spirits that he sees but they do have much more sensitive hearing and eyesight than humans so they can sense alot of things we'd never notice. My personal opinion is that some cats were meant to live in the wild and that is where they really belong - either that or on a farm where they are outdoor cats all day long. My cat was just itching for a chance to run and when he got his chance - he was gone. Very sad because we loved him anyway - he was declawed too. I feel bad for him because he couldn't defend himself in the wild after running away. But, he was a total freak.

My cat, Tommy does that all the time. He always suddenly looks into one direnction, in where there is totally nothing but air. He will do that in the middle of everything. Sometimes, in the middle of playing. Like someone or something making a loud noice, he will turn his head into that direction immediately. I really do not know what it is. Well, it could be just some small insects flying over, and we cannot see it but cats can. Or something else...... But I am glad that I have Tommy around. At least he can see!

My cat will take off running sometimes like an invisible dog is chasing him. But he doesn't meow at the top of his lungs while he's doing it. Also, he used to climb up the curtains, until the curtain rod broke and he fell, so he learned his lesson. Since cats sleep so much, I think they're burning off excess energy. As far as the cat viciously attacking you, he needs a spray with the water bottle for that.

A one year old boy cat? Chop them off!
Mine's also quite crazy without his - it's just all the energy young things have. The reason he's running around is that he gets excited - but I can't explain why he attacks you, unless it's like cats attack eachother for fun, without really meaning it. He probably doesn't realise how easily injured you are to other cats he plays with.

My cat sometimes will "attack" flickers of light coming through a window or reflecting or something. Sometimes I dont see what she is after but sometimes I can see it and when I do its some sort of light. She loves to chase the beam from a flash light=). Its not ghosts b/c people do not come back from the dead so dont worry. Angel or demon maybe=)? j/k

He's probably just being a kitten. My cat is almost a year old now, and he has mostly grown out of such erratic behavior, but sometimes he'll just take off for no apparent reason. I won't worry too much unless he starts hurting you or hurting himself in his bouts of friskiness, in which case, a vet visit is in order.

It is probably kittenhood, my kittens have exhibited this type of behavior before. It could just be his way of playing as well. I sometimes think animals may be able to see spirits but its likely to be one of the first two ;). And to glw: ,,I,
