You've got to tell him, and when you do, try not to make it all about you. Telling him about how bad you feel about it, and how hard it is to tell him, will come off as you putting your feelings above his, or even manipulating him to not be upset. The best thing to do is to replace it with a new one. Even if you have to borrow the money for it. That will show him where you stand. Make sure to buy it from someplace that you can return it, in case he might want a different watch. When something like that happens to me, I look at it as an opportunity for a change, or even to make an improvement. Who knows, maybe he's had his eye on another watch, but didn't want to buy it because he already had the other one.

Showing him that you've made significant effort to fix the situation, or at least to mitigate the damage, will make him feel less of a loss. If you do that, it will probably strenghthen your relationship in the long run.

Well, did you look everywhere for it? Sooner or later, he'll find out that his watch is missing. It's better to tell him now. A watch is a material thing and if he loves you more than that watch, he will forgive you. On the other hand, you can buy him a replacement. If you plan to buy him another watch, you should buy the same exact one that you lost.

Be honest. Tell him the truth. Suppose you buy a new one, that looks similar, and then he finds out. He's not going to be happy about that.
Tell him what happened, ask if he wants you to find a similar one, and face the consequences.
It will always go better for you if you face up to it now rather than later.
That said, I really feel bad for you, its not easy being in your position.

Buy him another one if you canafford. Same brand and Model or similiar to it. Then Tell him.

If you cannot afford, then tell him anyway.
