It's murder, not kill; otherwise smacking a misquito would be a sin, as would self defense. The command is in regards to what is in one's heart, not simply their physical actions.
Deuteronomy 5:17
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy%205:17;&version=31;9;49;48;51;
Only the KJV says kill, but see the commentary...
The sixth commandment requires that we regard the life and the safety of others as we do our own. Magistrates and their officers, and witnesses testifying the truth, do not break this command. Self-defence is lawful; but much which is not deemed murder by the laws of man, is such before God. Furious passions, stirred up by anger or by drunkenness, are no excuse: more guilty is murder in duels, which is a horrible effect of a haughty, revengeful spirit. All fighting, whether for wages, for renown, or out of anger and malice, breaks this command, and the bloodshed therein is murder. To tempt men to vice and crimes which shorten life, may be included. Misconduct, such as may break the heart, or shorten the lives of parents, wives, or other relatives, is a breach of this command. This command forbids all envy, malice, hatred, or anger, all provoking or insulting language. The destruction of our own lives is here forbidden. This commandment requires a spirit of kindness, longsuffering, and forgiveness.

The Hebrew word is actually ratsach, which is more properly translated Murder ( every translation I'm aware of but King James translates it Murder.)
Dictionary.com
Murder - The unlawful killing of one human by another, especially with premeditated malice.
How can the killing done in war be unlawful if it's done by the authority of the government. No where in the bible does it say war it's self is wrong.

Go to www.bricktestament.com and look at the Old Testament - it's just full of killing- sometimes entire tribes were killed! it's a great website to learn of God's ways (especially if you love LEGO)! God is all about taking care of His people - even if it means WAR. God bless!

The army is not a Christian group. This is a government group. They are fight against people that oppose basic freedoms, who terrorize people......they arent out to kill, they are out to protect, and if youre a terrorists that doesnt want to put your gun down, or quit plotting schemes of destruction you risk getting shot. .......You can not murder......murder is a selfless act....those who murder will be judged for that. You cant blame soldiers, police officers, FBI, etc whos job it is to protect people....That is not murder....murder is plotting to kill someone, to kill them for your own personal selfish reasons. There are soldiers who take things in their own hands, most in the brig facing punishment....Consequences here and at the judgement.
Now if a person murders and is in jail, he can give his life to Christ, turn his life around and still go to heaven. They still have to face consequences of the law in this world but they will be with Jesus in the kingdom of heaven for eternity.

I don't support war. However, the bible says there is a time for everything I just don't think this is one of those times.
Ecclesiastes 3
A Time for Everything
1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Because the "God and Country" type (i.e. Conservative Christian Fundamentalists) have turned their religion into a political platform. It's now all about God's supposed will for there to perpetually be a Republican in office who will make laws keeping women barefoot, pregnant, and in their kitchens--just like it was back in the "good old days".

the christians believe that war and killing for oil is fine and dandy.
they wear conservative shoes, and the importance of a truely better, higher conscious life is completely foreign to their polluted brains. REMEMBER also that most of these bible thumping idiots got there because they took too much cocaine or alcohol and now push their "new" agenda on everything around them.
sickos indeed, it's fear and loathing in our failed state.
