Is there any law that says we have to pay income tax? The IRS cites a lot of code, but this code has to come from a law passed by the congress, and it is this law I am looking for. And the 16th amandment says congress can pass those laws, but it still remains that people in congress have to pass those laws. So where is the law? (P.S. I am not trying to avoid my taxes because I don't make enough money to pay taxes, I am just curious).

What's funny is one of the reasons we broke away from Great Britain is so we didn't have to pay taxes. What the hell happened?

Maybe if everyone would stick together and stop being so proud we would not have to pay so much to uncle Sam my goodness a third of my check goes to taxes and at the end of the year I may get a thousand back and he keeps 3000 not right to me. Now if I had kids to claim would be OK then you do get all the money back. I still help my kids out alot even if they are 21 and 23 years old at 3 dollars for a gallon of gas and they both have little ones their money doesn't go far.So why are we paying so much for gas, heat are homes and taxes!!!!!!!11

Well the law is stated in title 26 of the US Code. That's the official law that states we must pay taxes. The 16th amendment mentions it in the constitution, but title 26 is the actual law.

PS: The code can be accessed at www.uscode.house.gov if you feel like looking, just type in title 26...

There is no law saying you have to pay taxes. The thousands of people that have tried it are in jail. There are groups of anti-tax people, they all get into trouble. We began America by bailing away from England from taxation and religious persecution.

Income tax was supposed to be a temporary fix for the government-until they discovered the huge amount of revenue it generated. Nothing has changed..................

As a matter of fact it has been asked on this site 1215 times. So why do you think phrasing your sentence differently will produce different results? It is what it is. When you start off with " I know people have asked this before, but here goes anyway..." Don't waste our time.Instead go to the green search bar at the top of screen, type in I.R.S. and read. You will be surprised what you can learn.

curiosity killed the cat...yeah I know you got eight more lives right. I would suggest going to your local IRS office. You would think they would know right.

Your goal should be to make enough to pay taxes. I dont' know about you but I enjoy our roadway system in the US......I like being able to dial 911 and I love our military. So I have no problem paying taxes but I understand the curiosity.

The 'Code' cited is the US Code, which is a compilation of all US laws.
