It is a stick with bristles inserted in rows upon one end, small enough to put into one's mouth. By putting water and toothpaste or other dental cleanser on the brush, and agitating the brush in circular or up and down motions, one cleans one's teeth of residual food, and hopefully removes some of the plaque from between teeth, that can lead to cavities.

well, you see. some people have stinky breath. this can occour from a number of things such as eating onions...sleeping with mouth shut, ect, ect. The people with stinky breath do not like takling to others because it makes them feel embarresed and quite sheepish. They need a solution to their problem. The solution? An invention called...yes, thats right, the toothbrush. Handle of plastic, with thicklike bristles attached to the end. if you want to get fancy, sometimes there is a rubber gripper on the end so it doesnt slip out of your hand. you put a chalklike substance called toothpaste on the end of your toothbrush and stick it in your mouth. Do an up and down motion of scrubbing to your teeth (those little white-like things coming out of your gums), until they feel completely clean...and then you spit the foam and saliva out into the sink. then take a drink of water to get the toothpaste taste out of your mouth. that, my friend, is the history of the toothbrush. thank you.
