illegals are the best fruit pickers?

Ya know, one of the tired over and over arguements is that illegals can pick anything better and we need them or America would collapse under it's own beans.

Far be it from any illegal to state that they would never take jobs away from Americans, of course they'd never say that, and since there's 450,000 farm picking jobs in the USA they must be really backed up with the 20 million that are here.

The problem I have with them fighing to pick strawberries so much is that not only do Americans pick strawberries, cotton, vegeatables, nuts....some of them even pick thier noses, and others have made innovative contributions enjoyed the world over in Industry, Medicine, Manufacturing and alot of other stuff.

Now I don't get it - is picking farmland the only contribution you can make in the USA? Cuz from where I'm standing there sure are way too many here for that already and they're screaming for millions more. I hope they come up with a better reason - they won't hire us to pick.

perhaps you've missed what I said - they will not hire anyone else but illegals and migrants to pick anything. What part of that did you not understand?

The woman with the Ex Husband I wouldn never stand between you and your illegal husband, I think you should keep the family together by going to Mexico with him. While they make $10 like you say, I've known people that lived there like kings for $100 a month. You can't compare the dollar to the peso that way.

If you think we need you, then leave and let us suffer. Give us what we deserve - deport yourselves.

Your point is well taken here. Once upon a time in old mexico, we probably did have a need to fill some farm labor positions. The mexican migrants filled that need. Now, with advances in agriculture, and the over populus of the pickers, we definetly don't need all that we've got. The crime situation should be proof enough of this. The ones that do other work are as you said, taking jobs such as construction, gas station attendents, and retail sales from LEGAL law abiding citizens, and that is where the problem lays. They need to go back to their migrant ways, and stop stealing OUR jobs! And you know, MIGRANT is defined as someone that comes here to work, and then MIGRATES back to the mother country,not come here and park their lazy asses and leech off our social system. If the government wants to grant any of the people access, restrict these numbers to the ones that are documented, and are here to work where they came here to work. The next time I go to Mcdonalds and can't understand the person taking my order, I'm gonna stand there and go off!! About the only thing migratory about these people is the drugs moving in and the money going out.

This is a divisive issue.

I don't really think anyone has all the facts of the economic costs and benefits that undocumented workers bring to the US economy.

There are a lot of 'studies' and a lot of estimates, but I don't think anyone really knows for sure. The data is collected by people with an agenda to promote, and they conveniently overlook information which hurts whatever side they take.

If you really want to end illegal immigration, you need to do a couple of things: stop the supply of workers (seal the southern US border -- about 1500 miles of mostly desert) and shut off the demand side for all the jobs that are filled by UW'ers.

Other than creating a national workers ID system, how do you propose stopping employers from hiring UW'ers? Not many folks are willing to give up their civil liberties to the federal gov't so it can vaccum up even more information about every person who lives here. How much more of your personal data do you want to give to the gov't? How much hassle do you want to go thru?

It's not like UW'ers come into town with a sign around their neck. Unless you favor racial profiling, and all the incredibly expensive lawsuits that will follow. But then, profiling might be used against you sometime in the future, when the cops decide to round up all the rednecks. They are easy to spot - usually wear trucker hats and wife-beater t-shirts.

From listening to the pro illegal lobby, you'd swear that no berry would be picked and all our toilets would be filthy if the illegals disappeared .... what do illegals contribute? Well, they're providing the country with illegal drugs ... they're working in construction (jobs that Americans would do if the illegals didn't price them off the market), they're providing doctors and hospitals with plenty of, albeit unpaid, work ... they keep the border patrol working overtime, and a few, although not many, actually do pick berries ... can think of many more things the illegals provide ... but you get my drift ...

My first job was picking blueberries at 7 cents a pound. At age 9 I learned something about hard work. I wish todays kids had the chance to do this.

Hummmm.... They just don't pick fruit anymore they do many others things as well,
like Farm work in fact i have a friends that started out as an Illegal,
he works so we"ll that the Owner has help him get his Papers and he and his wife and daughter'
are still on this same farm for 4 years now, hes the top Employee and is training others and helping as manage on many farms in are farming area !
I can't Judge Spanish people all of them are not at all uneducated!
They are very hard working people and they work many long hard hours and get a Job we'll done as we'll!

Well, no that's not the only reason I found for Illegals. I married one. I have a deadbeat Ex husband that can't hold down a job long enough to make a child support payment. Mind you, I devorced my American husband when he got his girlfriend pregnant. My Illegal husband has been supporting his step children for four years by stacking rocks. My X husband couldn't do that kind of work to feed his children, it was too good for him. My conclusion is, that many illegal immigrants have no choice but to come here to work. The average daily wage in Mexico is $10.00 and the government there does not regulate it. My rock stacking husband makes an average of 600 dollars a week. He supports his mother in Mexico because there is no social security, and his stepchildren here because there deadbeat dad is too good to work a common labor job. I don't care what anyone else thinks about my Mexican husband, he has my respect.
