If a sailboat is in a area with no wind it is said to be becalmed or "in irons". If the ship has no other means of propulsion (oars or motor) it will not move until a wind comes up.

I think you're lost, this is engineering not philosophy. But, hypothetically, if a sailboat is in a windless sea (never mind that this is a hallucination) then it is not a sailboat it is either a motor boat or throw off from some other vessel that carted it to the middle of the fantastic windless sea. :0)

Well... this is categorized under engineering rite???
So just suggest the best solution you can come up with.
That's part of engineering.
I suppose when you say it is windless...there will be no wind, no wave at all...just a sailboat in the middle...
Provided that sailboats of these days are equipped with high technology gadgets which can be used in these kinds of situation, just use them lol
Send signal...or whatever.
But if none of those are available... you can start by creating your own wind...

Use a sea sail. It's basically a small parachute that uses the oceans currents to pull you along.

It could be in the horse latitudes; so called because without wind the horses used up all the hay and water and had to be thrown overboard.

Action-reaction. Let go of an object in the boat and it'll start moving. same principle as in rockets in space.

Your up a creek without a paddle. Though I don't think your gonna find any bodies of water without wind.

Impossible if sail is the only power. Current, engines, oars or something had to get it there and will get it out.

Coleridge said it:
Day after day, day after day,
We stuck, nor breath nor motion ;
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.
