My coon hound mix is excellent for an agility or tracking sport!
I want to put her in agilty I was just wondering if anyone else is doing the same thing that i do.... I do not have the money to pay for proper agility equipment so i am going to use regular wooden poles to stick into the ground for weaves and me and my friends will build the stuff like the staqnd thing and the teater totter and such.... then we will buy a childrens play tunnel to use for a tunnel and shoot do u think its a good idea does anyone else do that?

I don't do agility myself but I work with a lady who does. She can't afford equipment either and even if she could she doesn't have the room for it. She takes classes that teach her and her pets (she competes w/ 2 different dogs) how to preform better as a team. The teacher provides the equipment to practice with. Since going to the class she has befriended other competitors in her class. Many times they let her borrow equipment or even tell her when they will be taking their equipment to the dog park for practice and invite her along to share the course. You should save the money you were going to spend on building equipment and invest in the classes. If you get to be a serious competitor the classes are something you probably would have done anyway.

I don't know, but I was planning on doing the same thing for my pups. I didn't want to do it for shows or competition or anything. I just wanted to do it for fun and exercise.

I'm sure you'll save alot of money doing it this way instead of buying the real stuff.

Yes a lot of people do that as agility equipment is quit expensive. another good building material is PVC pipe

Don't use wooden poles -- when the dog hits them, they will hurt, making your dog less likely to go for speed. buy white pvc pipe instead, thin, so that it gives. You don't EVER wish him to learn that if he hits one, it will hurt.

If I had a yard, I would totally do that for our high-flying pup. Best of luck!
