Toilet paper is the most comfortable material useful to keep the rectum free of feces and to prevent the growth of coliform bacteria on that body part. Bacteria from feces produce a very repulsive odor. In addition, toilet paper should be used EVERY TIME one urinates or defecates.
Residual urine will stain the underwear yellow and also produce dampness in the genital body parts, causing a very obnoxious odor from moisture-loving bacteria that wil grow there if toilet paper is not used. Wiping the scrotum or the vagina with toilet paper should be done from the front of the body toward the back to prevent the transfer of coliform bacteria to the genitals, which can cause infectious diseases such as yeasts and giardellosis.

I will say this that its much easier than using Tree leaves. Much more comfortable than Corn cobs. And more effective than using the Sears Robuck Cataloge... And besides I don't want to get my hands dirty....

Believe it or not, pretty much all mammels wipe their butt after a bowel movement. Most of them use the grass.
If you don't get rid of the extra matter, it does cause infections.
