If you absolutely need to take it away from him now tell him about the pacifier fairy! She is just like the tooth fairy who leaves a quarter for a pacifier. This worked for all 3 of my kids, but I waited till they were 3 years old. And low and behold all the old lost pacifiers that were missing eventually showed up even a year later!!!!

Take it from him asap soon there will be no need for it after time goes by and the sooner the better it can only be replaced with love,so give him everybit of attention you have to this is a responsibility that you have to tend too persistantly no fall backs for any reason. My 2 yr.old had a passy in her mouth nonstop and her grandma kept on giving eachtime I would take it from her and when I took her to the dentist she said there is NO way better than to just take it and whatever you must do to keep yourself sane do it also b/c he will forget in no time. well that night I poked a hole in the top and put tiny bit of hot sauce in it and told her too look at that nasty stuff that is on it and she put it in one more time and she told me that it was nasty and she threw it in the garbage , when she asked about it we would get her mind on something else so it can be done and the sooner you can you will be most benificial to her teeth ,see that was the whole problem that the dentist was worried about so there are pros and cons of pacifiers just do what you think the best way of handling this situation and you will make a smart one between all these answers. Good luck,Krissy

I think I saw this on supper nanny....tie all the pacifiers to a helium balloon...tell you're child that the "Binky's" need to go off to a far away land like Peter Pan because children there need them more. Let you child launch them in the air and wave good-bye to them.

Cut the tip of the pacifier off. He will hate to suck on it after that, because he wont be able to grip it with his mouth. It worked for me.

I suggest let him keep one pacifier. Soon it will get kind of gross and start to crack. He wont hurt himself but he will no longer want to have a pacifier that feels wierd in his mouth. That away you're not battling with him, he gives it up on his own.

He needs it! Do not take it away! He needs it!!
He is too young to remove the security he has found on his pacifier.
It is safe to use pacifier until he is 3y. After 2y try to limit it only for naps, bedtime or when you are going in the car.
