Stick with the King James. It's a remarkably accurate translation and the brilliance of the language doesn't make it any less accessible. The NIV is for Jews.

Everyone always gets the King James Version when I talk to people.

NIV. That translation is in plain english and tends to be easier understood.
Many Christian schools and churches teach and use NIV because of how easy it is for all ages to understand.

Most people are more familiar with the poetry written for the lunatic (KJB) so that would probably be your best bet.

I suggest changing the ten commandments so they aren't so hard to live by. You'll sell a ton of copies!
