I'm partial to Chihuahuas. However just to let you know. There is no such thing as a "teacup" chihuahua. The AKC standard puts thee weight of a chi between 2-6 pounds (though they can be smaller or larger). If you find a breeder selling "teacup" chihuahuas, don't buy them. It is simply a marketing tool. And the smallest chis often have health problems.

One of my chis just place 10th in his division at the state fair in obedience with my DD. My chis are well behaved, but it's up to you to make them that way. They are dogs and need to be treated as such rather than a toy or a fashion accessory. They need to be socialized and trained like any other dog. Chis have been bred specifically for social behavior (meaning other instincts such as hunting tend to be weak, though it varies from dog to dog) and to be lap dogs. Chis return your love 10 fold.

Good luck and BTW chis can be like potato chips, you can't just stop at one LOL.

There is no such thing as a "teacup" dog of any kind, it is not a dog size. Irresponsible people breed "teacup" dogs, it is a scam so you will spend more money on the dog. Smaller dogs have health problems also, there organs are to small and often die at a young age because of a heart attack. Do some research before you buy a dog and rescue.

We have four teacup chihuahuas. They make excellent pets, which can be trained to use a litter box or puppy poop pads. They are very loyal, protective, and affectionate to their owners. If you choose a chihuahua, make sure you get it from a reputable breeder. All dogs have certain conditions they are susceptible to.
Make sure the breeder has certification the the animal if free of various joint/bone related problems, or other physical issues. Do research on the Internet to determine which dog is right for you, and what physical problems could be inherent in your new pup. Good Luck

I'm a Chi person. Teacups are so small that you have to be extra careful. Dogs love to be around you and will get underfoot easily and all the time. I think 4-10 pounds is a great dog size. I have two chihuahua's. One is a smooth coat and the other a long coat. Chihuauas are strong and not prone to much disease. I got a deerhead. Appleheads look funny to me. Chi's do like to snap so you have to train them when they are young. Also, have friends over to hold them. This gets them used to people and they won't turn into the mean protective dogs that bite people's feet. Also, they like to burrow under blankets so don't sit on them! :)

Teacup Chihuahuas are great, but teacup Yorkies are even better. With the really small ones, you can put them in a large front pocket and carry them around with you. They will stick their heads out and watch everything around you. They have sweet dispositions.

i am afraid i'm somewhat prejudiced as we have a minidoxie that is very loveable and easy to care for. she weighs about 10 lbs.....no matter what type of small dog you choose be sure you can spend the amount of time and care for the dog..........i dont think its fair to the animal or the owner to leave them alone for lengthy periods of time without companionship.......also do you have plenty of room for the pet to exercize? can you afford the inevitable vet bills? these are questions to ask yourself before you spend the money on ANY animal...........good luck, s.t. from ohio

If u have stairs forget about a dachshund. They can get injured by going up and down stairs. But if I have no stairs I would pick a dachshund. Their cute, small, and they love attention.
