Well, since I am an orphan, raised on the streets of a third world country by a pack of dogs, I feel I can address this question.
When I was brought to my capitalist home, I noticed many things. First, indoor plumbing which I think is quite swell.
To get a job, I had to compete with many others who wanted the same job. I had to make myself appear as good as possible - so I had to exaggerate and pretend that I was smarter than I was. So, competition is part of the problem.
Next, I was introduced to competitive sports. I'm not sure I would have gotten my Olympic medal without my human growth hormone. So, sports led to cheating.
Then one day, after lying about being intelligent, someone called me, "A big, fat liar." And thus, violence entered my world.
Education really tries to prepare kids to be swell citizens. However, there are these things we call 'parents' that actually have a larger responsibility than the education system.
The apple does not fall far from the tree. And in this comparison, a person is the apple and the parents are the tree.

No-- people with more education tend to have more money and power. And thus have more opportunities to take advantage of this and abuse it. And it also is morelikely to make the news. I'm sure Enron had lowly emplyees that were stealing office supplies. But they didn't have the opportunity to steal on the same scale as the executives did. Theft is theft, but you've heard of Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling, but not those lowly employees.

I think you have the educated confused with the powerful. They aren't necessarily the same thing. I know lots of very nice, very well-educated people.

No that's a stereotype... I think educated people who commit crime just have a tendency to commit bigger or more sophisticated crime, that gets more noticed in papers & other media.
