I'm scared out of my mind!

I went back to work within an hour after having 4 wisdom teeth pulled and I was a receptionist at that time. When my husband had his pulled out, he wanted to be put under. He was such a baby. He made me wait on him hand and foot, and needed an ice pack and then a hot pack, and then he wanted me to make him his favorite soup, yada yada, yada.. He even had me take the kids to my dad's for awhile so he could "rest." Good grief! Don't worry, it is different for everybody. You will do fine!

I had 6 wisdom teeth! 4 on top and 2 on the bottom, ALL were fully impacted, coming in side ways and everything! I was fully under during surgery, and was quite out of it that same day! Just take your pain meds and you will be OKAY! It is kind of hard to eat at first, even to drink becaues your mouth might still be numb, but just do it!! Anything in your mouth heals quickly because there is so much blood supply!! So don't worry you will be back to normal by 2 weeks!!

I got mine out 8 days ago and I am still paying the price! I'm 25 and they say the recovery period is longer when you are older and they weren't kidding. The actual surgery was cake even though I cried when they took my blood pressure because I was sooooo scared. You really don't even know what they are doing when you are out. It's the misery that happens when you wake up! So after 8 days my jaw is killing me, still can't chew food that I actually want comfortably, and I have 2 gaping holes in my mouth that catch 80% of the food I eat. Don't believe everyone that says...it's no big deal. They lie! But the reality is they have to come out so just get it done now. Trust me! The longer you wait the worse the recovery will be.

I was put to sleep with an IV stuck to the back of of my hand. I was terrified because I was attached to a heart rate monitor. When I was woken up after the the surgery I started crying because I got upset that the surgeon threw away my wisdom teeth and my original plan was to tell him to save them for me because I wanted to look at them. Anyways I suffered from horrendous bad breath, swollen puffy cheeks and the pain was tolerable but at times they were killer. The meds got me feeling drunk and I took some at work not realizing they make you like that and It was a struggle to keep from sleeping at my desk and I would bang my head on the desk when I couldn't hold it anymore. I couldn't eat for the first three days because my mouth only opened to like a slit. The whole ordeal lasted for about 3 three weeks. But get your wisdom teeth pulled the sooner the better.

Its not nearly as bad as getting your tonsils pulled! Just make sure you understand whether or not you're being completey put under or if there's a possibility of you waking up. I woke up in the middle of mine and had a panic attack because I thought something was wrong. That was probably the worst part of the whole thing. A little uncomfortable when the stitches start to come out. Make sure your surgeon is a good one though- know some people who had HORRIBLE experiences!

You will survive it though!

Make sure you have two ice bags on your face at all times to reduce swelling and take lots of ibuprofen/advil to keep swelling down and help with pain!

GOOD LUCK!

It depends on whether they're impacted or not, if they are they have to cut the gum a little bit to pull them out, this method takes a little longer to heal & may be an outpatient procedure in the hospital.
I had mine pulled in the dentist office & the only thing I felt was a little pressure (NO PAIN)...& they give you really good medicine to relieve the discomfort until they heal.
Remember...lots of folks have to get this done & very few have any problems with it.
Good Luck! :)

I removed two of my older daughter's wisdom teeth at 2:00 in the afternoon and told her to go home and lie down until dinner time. Before I got home, she had already left for the mall! I was rather angry, because I figured that she'd be moaning all night long and asking me what to do for the pain. Much to my happy surprise, she seemed just fine. She said that she waited until the numbness started to go away and she felt pretty good, so she decided to get up and go.

Same thing with my son. We were actually headed home from a drum lesson and he asked if we could stop in the office to check out the sore place in his mouth. It turned out to be an erupting wisdom tooth. He asked if I felt like taking it out right then, so I did. (I was afraid he might change his mind if he thought about it overnight.) His mom didn't even know he had a wisdom tooth taken out until he had to take the gauze out of his mouth to eat dinner. His uppers were both kind of difficult and he had trouble healing with one of them (sinus involvement), but that didn't last for more than 3 or 4 days.

With my third child, I took her to the oral surgeon, because the roots were sort of close to the nerve and _I_ didn't want to be the one to cause her any trouble if things got difficult. She had nitrous oxide and little bit of iv sedation and had all four removed at once. I wanted to get her right home, but she asked me to stop off at the mall before we went home. She insisted that she was okay. Instead of going home and lying down, she walked through the mall. Yes, she was biting on her gauze packs (in the mall!), but still she was a lot more active than I would recommend. She had no trouble at all healing. I think she went out that night, too. (It was 1999, so I don't remember the details.)

I'm not saying that they are ALL like this, but there are wisdom teeth and then there are w*!`S^D@m TEETH!!! I always say that wisdom teeth (and root canals, by the way) are like teenagers. At least 90% are no trouble at all, but everybody talks about the bad ones.

I had all four out and they were embedded in the jaw so it was a big deal. That said, the surgery wasn't bad. They gave me a valium ahead of time and "twilight" anaesthetic and I had no clue what they were doing to me. Afterward was given codeine for painkiller. Had a few stitches, some open holes in the back for awhile but not too much pain as I recall and healed fine. Don't stress!

Don't be. When I got mine yanked (all 4 at once ! ) they used a combo of nitrous oxide and liquid Valium to put me to sleep. Not everyone has a hard time with this procedure. I did, but that's only because I have a high tolerance to pain meds. They also had to do a biopsy on my jaw and had to dislocate it to get two of my teeth out because of my overbite.
I felt ten times better after the two week period of recovery.

It is definitely nothing to worry about. I have all 4 out at once (1 was impacted) and it was a piece of cake. You go in sit in the chair, start breathing in the gas and are out almost instantly. You wake up all loopy and sleep for almost a day. After that it's just watching what you eat for a while.
