i'm 23 and i still enjoy breast milk every now and then.
really.. it's probably the most healthy thing ever. i don't see why they don't bottle it so i can drink it with my cereal in the morning.
does a body good.
people normally call me an asshole when i say i won't date a woman without huge breasts. it's not true... i only want to make sure that i have an awesome amount of milk for when thetime comes...so that i can get in on some of that sweet nectar from above.
i would probably date a girl with smaller breasts... if she were already lactating.. hmmm...
maybe..
oreos taste much better with milk from the teat of a beautiful women.
but it drives me to being a poor man. do you know how expensive it is to pay off lower class mothers to let me suck on their breast for a few minutes a day?

I take it that your son is pretty healthy? I have only known someone to breast feed until their child was 3. But My children were given whole milk when they were 1. Breast milk isn't bad, but it seems that he is too old to need it. As long as sge is pumping her milk wont run dry. My second is 3 and 1/2 and am not dry. You should be lucky that your son got the milk for so long! It is healthy. Alot of kids don't even get breast milk. The most important thing is the first 3 months of theri life!

Normally 6 weeks to 6 months are the best amount of time to breat feed, but some people will do it for a year. Culturally it is not acceptable for a child that is walking and talking to be breast fed. It is also likely to start having effects on a 6 year olds mind, I think you and your wife need to live the child with a reliative for a weekend or more and go have some fun.
6 years is way too long in just about any culture, he can eat on his own and he does not need any nutrition from his mother any more, the sooner you stop this the better.

I would have to agree with you. There are no health benefits for your son at this age...really anything beyond a year. As long as she is pumping, that breast milk will go on indefinately. When she stops, the milk will dry up shortly there after. Also, I'm not sure of the psychological effects of a 6 year old still breast feeding...but I'd say its not healthy.

Ok if he is 6yrs old then he is way over being finished by the time they are 2 they should be done. May be your wife needs to see a Dr it could be a physiological thing and she is have ing a hard time letting go of that bond.
As far as the drying up part as long as the child nurses the milk will be produced once the nursing stops the milk stops

Your wife needs councelling. She's having a tough time letting your baby grow up and become independant. 6 years of age is a way too old for breastfeeding. I breastfed both of my kids. The first for 5 months, because I had to go back to work, and the second for 10 months, when she started cutting teeth!! Your son has had all the benefits of the brestmilk, but he needs to be introduced to cow's milk or he will probably develop lactose intolerance. Talk to your family doctor and seek councelling.

OMG! I hope you are kidding!
Extended breastfeed is meant for 2 or 3 year olds, not a 6 year old! As long as there is the right stimulation, she will make milk. She will make milk until the day she dies if she allows your son to nurse everyday, or pumps it out.
Not only is this physiologically unhealthy for him, it's bad for his teeth and him. The fat content of breast milk, while great for infants and toddlers for brain development, is too high for older children. He will probably need braces as he gets older if she continues. Our teeth aren't meant for nursing.
The three of you need to go to a pediatrician and have him/her explain to her why this is bad. She might listen better to a doctor. If she still insists, she needs counseling. It sounds like she is doing this for her benefit more than your son's. Maybe she doesn't want to admit that he is growing up? Is she using this as a substitute for your love? Something is really wrong with her.

Mothers in other Countries(Japan, i.e) breastfeed there children all the way to age 8 or 9. There is certainly some good things in breastmilk.
However in our culture most mothers only feed til 1year old if that , or if at all. So other then a cultureclash i dont see a problem here, and it may effect her son in school if shes still doint it then. (in Japan mothers go to the school and breastfeed at naptime....)
Unless Hes not overweight and she is understanding of the culture clash, there shouldnt be much of an issue here.

As long as she is breast feeding her breast will create milk, it is sort of a demand-supply thing.
I think that your son is definitely too old, remember breast feeding if for nutrition and bonding. Your son should be(and probably is) getting his nutrition from other food. So what is going on is the psychological aspect of breast feeding, sorry, I know she probably feels this is very nurturing, and motherly, but this sounds a little too sexual at his age.
