We are not bodies with souls, we are souls with bodies.

Yes and No!!! When Adam was formed from the dust in Genesis, he laid there just a body. Then God (who is a Spirit) breathed into Adams nostrils the breath of life; which was a part of Gods Spirit, man became a living soul. When body, and spirit, comes together it generates a soul (a persons identity). Since it was the Spirit of God (the breath of life) that caused Adam or mankind to become a living soul; and since God or Gods Spirit can never die, nothing or no one that have ever lived (received the Spirit of God) can ever die. However, because one doesn’t know God or don’t have a relationship with him, one can be spiritually dead to the spiritual principals of God; thus the phrase spiritually dead. When one dies, the only thing that dies is the body (goes back to the dust), the spirit; which gives one life and the soul the individuals identity lives on in eternity.

No. A spirit is the "essence" of a living being. It is the unity of body and soul. The spirit is the rational, animating force behind a living thing, without which a body would be about as good as a chair or some other inanimate object.

Animals have spirits too, but theirs is temporal, because it is not rational.

The spirit cannot die when you're alive. Because the only reason a person is alive is because of it's spirit. A person may lose the vigour in life but the spirit is never lost until death.
Good luck and high spirits:).

Absolutely not. The spirit is actually referring to the soul, which never dies. Even though may walk around as though they have no life about them, their soul is much alive; even though they may fail to act like it. Your spirit will not die, even when the body does literally die. But the spirit (or soul) will then stand before God and give account for the deeds which they have done. Their spirit will be either received into Heaven, or cast eternally into Hell. This is not my opinion, but the Words of God Himself.

Yes the spirit can be dead while the body is alive.

A leper is alive, but he does not have any sensation in the skin. So also, the spirit can become insensitive to the voice of God essentially killing it.

YOU MEAN as "Cease to Exist"----NO.

As in "Spiritually Dead"-----alive, but not Connected to GOD ALMIGHTY---YES. We are all Born that way on the EARTH.

Your Body is Alive because YOU (a Spirit) are still in it.
You (a Spirit) look JUST like your Body (arm's, leg's, fingernail's etc.)--- that's why you will be able to Recognize everybody else in HEAVEN.

no. think of it like in the movie 'men in black'. if the little alien inside the huge robot he was controlling was dead, he wouldn't be able to control the robot body anymore.

same thing with the spirit.. if it detaches from the body it cannot control it anymore and the body is lifeless.
