Agorophobia is a fear of the unknown. It could be where you are terrified of leaving your home. Some people cannot even go out their front door to get the newspaper or mail. They feel fear and anxiousness and panic.
I will describe mine and see if you have any or some of these symptoms.I am unable to leave the house unless i take medication. This is important for me for my doctor appointments.
My husband goes everywhere with me,as i cannot go alone and i have been such a burden on my family. They have to make sure i get to my doctors appoinments and my phyciatrist appointments.
I would rather just not think of going because i lose sleep and i pace at night thinking of having to go out the next day.I sometimes have to open a window as i fear i can't breathe due to panic from worrying about having to go to an appointment.I have had panic and anxiety attacks while out and usually my husband or daughter will realize this and take me out of the situation and take me home.I can't breathe,i feel as though i am dying and that this the end,it's over.I can't control these attacks but i do try the breating exercises.I breath in through my nose ,hold it and count to five, then breath out through my mouth. My thoughts are racing all the time as i'm always trying to find my comfort zone.Which is in bedroom with the door shut and nobody around. This is a very serious problem and i feel that you cannot be diagnosed unless you see a doctor and he will help you.But it is alot of self talk that you have to do with yourself and be strong.

Panic disorder with agoraphobia
Definition:
Agoraphobia is fear of being in places where help might not be available, typically fear of crowds, bridges, or of being outside alone.
Causes, incidence, and risk factors:
Agoraphobia is a disorder that most often accompanies other anxiety disorders, such as panic disorder or specific phobias.
If it occurs with panic disorder, the onset is usually during a person's 20s, and women are affected more often than men. People with this disorder may become house bound for years, which is likely to hurt social and interpersonal relationships.

Agoraphobia is when you feel stressed when you are among a crowd. I think you are just too stressed with this terrorism thing. Just cope with it logically. The chances of something happening are really small. It is more possible to be run down by a car or have a home accident, like being electrified in the bathroom or sth or get an illness. Now, don't panic about these things, they will not happen, I am just trying to show you how little possibilities there are to be hit by terrorists.

paranoia is prevelent in almost all of the population, severe paranoia is not, it is obvious that you a caring person otherwise you would not care about another 9/11. as for agrophobia why is it you think you are agrophobic, because you feel anxiety when you go outside, most women going out in any big city would tell you the same thing.
but they put that to the back of thier mind and take precautions ,go out with a friend, go where you are known, dont stray into areas that you are not sure of ,dont look lost if if you are, if you stay at home you can become a prisoner but before that happens
see a doctor discuss the situation , make a rule to go out every day even if its to the garbage/dustbin. just do it. good luck LF
