My sister had a child with cerebal palsy. I have always admired her strength in raising Shelbe. She never was able to speak in sentences or walk, but my sister loved her as the beautiful angel she is. I don't know how severe your child is but just pray for the strength to love your child because he is yours. Maybe find a support group for other mothers in the same situation. You will eeda really good support system. As for my Shelbe, she passed on last November and she was a joy and inspiration to every one's lives.

I work with someone with CP. She is 24. She is cognitive and likes to read, do crafts and ride horses. She is in an electric wheelchair and is basically a quadripeligic with a little use of her hands. But she is a very social person and functions at just below her age level. She went to a regular school and graduated with help from a TA. She leads a very full life. Get help with the care though, or you'll burn out. You'll need support and alot of it. Consider hiring someone for respite care, if you can afford it, or appeal to the government for funding. Development will be slower at this age, but all hope is not lost! Keep reaching out for others in your situation, Good Luck!

I worked with a boy with CP for 3 years when I was in college. He was 5-8 while I was working with him and never functioned even at the level of a 1 year old. We worked on an extensive program with him to help develop his muscles and strength. It was developed by some institute in PA specifically for him. We would "pattern" him so that his mind would get used to the way it feels to crawl in hopes that one day he would be able to crawl. We also did a lot of trying to get him to crawl instead of just drag himself around. He had the most amazing and supportive family. I admire anyone who is able to raise a child with CP. Definitely find support groups and maybe even try and contact that institute.

I do. My son couldn't roll over at 15 months. We were told that he wouldn't walk until he was 3 or 4, if he did. Be patient, your child will surprise you! My son is 3 and runs everywhere.

Check out a local CP association for support and talk from parents going through it. It helps a lot.
